I have had a car loan through Onyx for 5 years. Oct 2005 is my last payment, but for some reason instead of the normal $497.54, it's $1500.00. Now that its Capital 1, I am going to relive a past nightmare. I have been timely for the past 4 years and I know I have a late charge, which is NOT included in the final balance. They continue to call and harass me eventhough I made a normal payment in October while I get an answer on why I hae such a high balance, they promised copies of my payments, but they still haven't come through. I seriously hope that the CEO of Onyx Acceptance burns in hell since selling to Capital 1 as this will now create nightmares for all.

Onyx and Capital One are crooks

AUTHOR: Jude - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 14, 2005

I had no problems until Capital One took over either. I never rec'd any notification from Onyx telling me that my loan had even changed. Every idiot I spoke with at Capital One said that there had been a lot of letters both from Onyx and themselves but to this day not one has come. I never rec'd a thing from Capital One other than nasty calls expecting me to believe that they were the new owners of my loan. Nothing in writing and they expected me to pay over them phone. They even went so far as to accuse me of lying about not receiving any documetation. I never rec'd a bill or a statement after asking numerous times. I have now paid off the entire debt and still have not rec'd a thing.

I know of the fees involved with lates, but that is not what I am talking about. By the way, my payment history has been current for the past 4 years. Though this has been recently bought (Onyx) by Capital 1, I am referring to the nightmare of dealing with Capital 1. Dealing with Onyx has been tolerable, but Captial 1 has zero idea of what is happening with my account. I have called twice to receive a payment history and/or amortization table. Its quite simple and would aleviate any headaches. I just keep getting zero response to my request except for all the harasing phone calls. Eventhough I am trying to resolve this.

I speak with hundreds of customers a day that do not take into consideration that deferring payments and steadily accruing late charges, affects your last payment. Once a customer's account matures, whatever the balance that is left on the loan, this includes late charges, is due. I always advise my customers that if they ever have a little extra to put towards the principal of the balance, to do so. It will always save you money on interest in the long run. Capital One Auto Finance customers have simple daily interest loans which means that everyday that the account is delinquent, interest accrues. EVERY DAY!!! There is no "grace period" because with a true "grace period" no charges accrue. For example, if a late fee is assessed on day 10, the account has still accrued 10 days of interest before the late fee is assessed. This is why we at Capital One Auto Finance do not tell our customers that they have a "grace period". It lessens the confusion. So, again, just a little bit of advice when it comes to your loan balance, if you have a little extra, pay a little extra next time with your monthly payment. Trust me, it will save you more in the long run and it will also eliminate the stress and hassle.
