My sister received a call from Sebastian (he had an Indian accent) at (817) 400-4319. He said he was from Capital One Bank and would be able to offer her a loan in the amount of $4500 (She had filled out an on-line form looking to be matched with short term loan services).
Sebastian offered the loan at 9% APR, with a 36 month term at $159.00 per month. The money was to be deposited the next day at 9 a.m. After agreeing to the terms, but not signing any paperwork, Sebastian calls back and says their front office says she would need to submit a $225.00 application fee. It had to be in cash, not credit or debit, as they aren't allowed due to previous customer complaints. My sister went to the store and purchased a PayPower card and gave Sebastian the information. He stated she would have the money on Monday by 11:00 a.m.
Monday, she gets a phone call saying she would need to pay another $220.00 for federal tax, which is 10% of the loan amount. Since Sebastian made a mistake in not mentioning the tax, he would be willing to pick up the difference of $230.00 for her. All she needed to do was get another PayPower card and send in that money. At that point, my sister called me to get involved. I called Sebastian to ask more questions because it didn't seem right to pay a fee in advance of getting the money....that's why there is interest. I asked if they were affiliated with Capital One Bank. He said not, then he wouldn't answer my questions (since I wasn't on the loan), so my sister and I called him together. The more questions I asked, the more aggitated he got. Finally, we asked him for documentation of the loan. She received a pdf copy of an agreement. The email was a gmail account. The emblem was Capital One Bank's. There were 2 names mentioned, Consultant, David Alexander and Mark Brown, Funding Manager. I did an internet search on those names and found a Ripoff Report that sounded similar to our situation.
Sebastian called my sister this morning to ask for payment. My sister said he wasn't getting any. He said she and her sister wasted his time and hung up on her.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A LOAN, DO NOT SEND ANYONE MONEY TO GET THE LOAN! IT IS A SCAM.
