I applied for a Capital One Credit Card due to the fact that I heard and read that they will waive the 2% transaction fee when going to Europe. That's the best part.

I unfortunately only brought the Capital One Credit Card with me to Europe for my vacation. During the vacation I realized that the dollar versus the Euro was not very good. The night before I was to go back to the United States my credit card stopped working! It took two hours of international calls, since it is impossible to place their "collect" telephone call feature from Europe (Belgium and Germany) to get through to a customer service representative. This is more of a USA procedure.

I still had approximately $50 left of credit on my credit card, but they "accidently" stopped my use of the card. Since the credit card only had come with a $3,000 credit limit, I asked them to please add $100-$200 more of credit since the conversion rate was very difficult to figure out while vacationing.

I spoke to three different customer service representatives who told me that they were sorry that I was stranded in Europe but they would not advance my credit even an additional $50. My other credit cards all have a much larger credit availability in case you were wondering, as I did why they only gave me $3,000 in available credit.

So, needless to say, I walked to the train carrying my bags, hoping that I would make my flight home. It was a wonderful trip, but if Capital One offered me $5,000 to stay with them I would tell them where they can place their credit cards.

My only advice: Do Not Apply For A Capital One Credit Card. The customer service is horrible!!! It is not worth saving any percentage when traveling.

This company is probably good for people that have credit problems that are accustomed to being treated this way. . .Like a Credit Criminal!!!!!

Stranded?? With only 1 card?

AUTHOR: Capone - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 13, 2008

So let me get this straight. You went to Europe and only brought 1 card with you?? You also have higher credit limits on other cards?? As a bank that monitors fraud activity, I'm sure it would seem odd that you were using your card in your local area when all of the sudden, the card is being used outside the country. As a previous fraud detection specialist, I saw HUGE transactions with companies that were outside the country that ARE fraud. Anytime this is suspected, then you would usually be declined due to fraud activity. What bank doesn't do something like this (Unless outside the country purchases are a normal trend). What does it hurt to take 5 minutes out of your day (BEFORE LEAVING THE COUNTRY), to call all your credit card companies to tell them you are using the card outside the country??

2nd is that you have a set credit limit, we cannot change what your credit limit due to the fact your current or living situation changed. No bank would.

3rd... Ripoff?? Where is the ripoff you are reporting in your complaint?? Is it because you were cut-off? Or is it that the company was protecting your assets?
