One of many being declined for this secured no-risk credit card.
This company does run [credit score] checks for approval for a secured credit card which seems like an oxymoran for this product but anyway they do it.
People are being denied for this card left and right after having their credit further damaged by a needless inquiry. Needless for a couple reasons, but mainly due to not disclosing the minimum required score on their application process and they have one.
In my case, I sent the full deposit of $200 to them electronically (their system allows this prior to approval), which I did in good faith. They requested an income statement after filing the application, which cost me time and money to provide and which was not the cause of the decline.
The credit score was. Something they could have both disclosed ahead of time or decided immediately and automatically.
There is a 10 day hold on deposited funds before you can even request they be sent back.

Total WASTE OF TIME!

Add me to the list. I feel pretty stupid for not checking the internet first. I got a "you're pre-approved" notice from these idiots. Went online and applied, then "CONGRATULATIONS! YOU'RE APPROVED!" They sent me my MasterCard. Called to activate it and "BAM!"
. . . We can't activate your card until you send us copies of:
1) your Driver's Liscense
2) your Social Security card
3) copy of your recent utility bill
I jumped thru all their hoops, then was told they "need you to send us more information. . ." WHAT A WASTE OF TIME! I told them to remove me from their stupid mailing list and FORGET my phone number. (Of course, they won't. They'll now sell me out and market my info for every penny they can get.) I have 4 credit cards: 2 VISA, 1 MC, 1 American Express. I always pay my balances IN FULL any time I use on of them, never pay a finance charge. This company is a SCAM. You're not pre-approved, they waste HOURS of your cell phone minutes in stupid "need more info" calls.

thats awful to hear especially when so many attempting to improve their credit are approved. but i have heard of others being denied. i was approved with a credit score of 586 (Experian) not too much higher and i find it odd for you not being approved. i'd work on improving your credit score. i've spen hours reading on myfico / creditkarma / and searching and reading on this card before i applied. i hadn't applied for credit in something like 3 years which required that i get a co-signer which i didn't want to do.
after i applied my score dropped to 578 (Experian). the odd thing is my TransUnion credit score shortly went up to 587. i have a standard creditkarma account which lists my TU credit score - i don't pay for it but i do for experian which 14.99 a month. i think i will call to cancel so they will drop it back down to 7.99.
i am guessing my TU score wen up because my work and residence info all updated? nothing else changed on my credit reports other than the credit pull.
best of luck hang in there and lets just ignore Roberts pompus comment. there are experiences that are out of our control that impact us that can cause our credit to tank. mine was when someone tried to murder me who is still walking free. i still live with it but i think enough time has gone by. eventually they will end up behind bars where they belong.

565 <=== rejection criteria, Customer loyalty means nothing

Yes, the credit score was very poor. 565. You may get approved with a slightly higher score but I doubt it. In any case, credit worthiness (the only reason to check credit) would not apply to a Secured Credit Card. Capital One historically is a company that buys competetive businesses that market to the subprime market and puts their product out of business. Such is the case with the Orchard card, which was arguably the largest secured credit card with guaranteed approval. They also bought People First, an auto lender that sent you a blank check upon approval to better negotiate with a dealer as a cash customer. I actually got a loan there under those conditions. After refinancing my now (capital one auto loan account) after paying them approx $10,000 in interest over a 13-month period with Navy Federal Credit Union, I find loyalty and company history to mean absolutely nothing to them.

For you to be denied for a SECURED card..your credit must really be in the toilet. The only RipOff is probably the one you have done by stiffing past creditors.
They may allow you to send a deposit, but they don't require it. So that is 100% on you for sending the money before you needed to. Next, very few creditors disclose their minimum credit score requirements for a credit card. The main reason is that credit scores are not only usually not only requirement, but there are probably no less than a dozen different methods of calculating a score and a 700 on one company may not be a 700 with another.
Also, since you like to talk about oxymorons. How about the oxymoron of a person with a "damaged" credit history talking about "good faith".
