Ever see that comercial with the barbarians running wild and then consumer pulls the capital one no hassle card out of the wallet and is saved.

What a crock of ****. I recently paid off my capital one balance. In March of this year or so I thought. Low and behold the next statement has a .03 cent finance charge on it and a 13.00 finance charge from the month 2 months prior to the pay off. Somehow it was not accounted for in the balance due or is added in after you make payment the customer rep could not explain it quite right.

Anyway shame on me for not checking my email statements after thinking I paid the card in full. Going forward a few more months of 29.00 bucks a shot in past due fees on the 13.03 balance that was leftover finance charges and wow I owe 168.30 and my card that has been in good standing since the day I opened the account is sent to collections. I never got a phone call not at work not at home not on my cell to ask if something was wrong or if I lost the card nothing. I even pay for payment protection whick did nothing to help.

Well I found out where those barbarians go after the commercial. My account!!! They plundered my money from my pocket and were completely un willing to remove any charges in good faith or show that I have any value to them at all as a customer.

I will be closing the account after my payoff clears at which time I'm sure they will want to know why and offer me a coupon or better rate to stay on. It just burns me up that they can see my history with them and know that I am always on time and I pay for the extra services and not a single offer to remove the late fees or anything. Capital One platinum BS.

In a time when credit is so important to a person it would seem they did nothing to try and help the customer before trashing my credit by sending me to collections. I will be taking my money and credit elsewhere in the future. You should do the same.

#7 Consumer Suggestion

Can't close a balance with an account..

AUTHOR: Jessica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 17, 2005

So sorry but I just found out you can't close your card with them if you have a balance. And you should never just stop paying a credit card. You should have called them right away when you knew you were out of work. They could have worked out a payment plan. Some of your posting didn't make sense to me but I would call them and work out a payment plan. They can, and will, call you every day if they want.

#5 Consumer Suggestion

I would close the account right now

AUTHOR: Jessica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 22, 2005

I have a suggestion for you. I would close the account right now if the balance isn't too high. Your credit score will improve if you have open credit but if you don't (if your card is maxed) you might as well just close it anyways.

I'm very surprised to hear they charged you $29 on a balance that was under $100. The credit card company I used to work for did not charge any late fees if the balance was under $100, and then only $5 if the balance was under $200.

Also to the man whose APR went up to 29%..that sounds like the default payment APR. That doesn't happen unless you are over 30 days late. If you think this is inaccurate, have them send you copies of your statements so you can check them out for yourself.

They hold your payment for extended time to create more charges

I use to have a Capitol one Visa card and found some interesting tactics they did to make money for themselves. My bill was due at the end of the month and I would send out the payment on the 20th. I was surprised one day to find out that my interest rate jumped up from 6% to 29%. When I inquired at to why, they said I was late three months straight. So I started to test how long it took them to process a payment. I was only able to do this a few times cause I didn't want to pay these outragious finance fees.

I sent the payment to them same time I sent out 2 other payments and see when they were deposited. The other two accounts would be cashed by the institutions 3 to 5 days after I sent it. Those two would be completed within a day of each other. But Capitol One would take at least 5 days longer than those two and one time almost two weeks. I was only able to test this three times but did find a pattern.

Hence, by holding the check like they did, they were able to increase my interest rate to them and add a few finance charges. I was lucky in that I was able to get a loan from my bank to pay them off and cancel the credit card.
