Faith took possession of an engagement ring for the purposes of an appraisal for insurance. She did the appraisal while my fiancee and myself waited. Before she handed the ring back to us she noted that one of the baquettes was loose and asked if we would like her to tighten it. Of course we said yes, take care of it. She went in the workroom at her store location for all of two minutes and came back out saying, "I really screwed up." She had caused the loose stone to chip while tapping the ring to tighten the platinum. I told her it wasn't an issue, only a mistake and she'll just need to replaced the stone. She immediately started to babble about natural fracture lines in diamonds and we didn't buy it from her and she didn't make it and that she wasn't completely responsible. She offered to replaced the stone paying for half the cost and mounting it for free. This added up to $250 from me. $250 that I have to pay for her mistake. She took possession of the ring so you would think that if SHE cracked a stone then SHE would have to deal with it in full. I ended up sending back to NY to the person who made it. They are replacing the stone for free. Upon talking to several people in the area this is not unusual behavior for Capone's. Stay away from her and that store.

Claire,

So I'm stuck here at home because of ice enjoying some coffee and after a very long time I wondered how the crook is doing at Capone's in Blacksburg. I noticed that you inquired about whether I went back to her repeatedly with appeals and noted that my little story has no "ending". It does in fact have an ending. The ending is that the ring was sent back to a legitimate jeweler who fixed it the same day and mailed it back to me. When this situation occurred it did not result in a singular appeal with a rejection and my leaving the store. I did spend a minimum of 10 minutes approaching the issue from different directions and repeatedly appealing to her sense of decency. I stayed calm and logical throughout this process even though my better half was incredibly upset. She was not hysterical, just sitting there with glassy eyes not willing to speak. So the situation did follow a full track from beginning through resolution attempts to conclusion. The owner was free of affect. When I say free of affect I really mean that, she was completely flat. I've only encountered one other person in my life who intentionally dropped the ball on something that is a non-issue. It's not an issue monetarily and would not have been an issue to correct for time. I would have probably needed to leave the ring with her for he day or even over night if her work load was backed up. She didn't crack the main stone, just a little side stone. I have since actively and aggressively spread the word about this store and her personally. I have found quite a few people who were about to pull the trigger on a significant purchase. Giving a VERY conservative figure I can be confident that I've kept a minimum of 50-70 thousand dollars away from her establishment since my original posting. Keep in mind this is over a trash stone being used to frame the central piece on a ring. That's a minimum. If I really wanted to feel great about it I could probably stretch the number to 80K but the 50-70 range is safe. I will never stop this now. For an hour of her time in work, her cost on a stone that was probably $90 from the distributor and getting me as a loyal customer she's landed my sights squarely on her and her store. So maybe when I can say that I've caused her a quarter million in lost sales I'll give it a rest but that'll be years away.

I'll say again, stay away from this establishment. Maybe I'll check back here in another couple years to see if anyone else chimed in. Everyone tell the people in your life that you love them every day and stay safe. Jason

How did this end up?

Even though there's been many years since this report; it is interesting there is no follow up. Did the complaint just go away mad ; or did it get resolved? Which? It would suffice to say that each person making a serious accusation would clarify how the story ended. Did you try again to resolve the dispute; because I bet the business owner might have appreciated that opportunity more than you know. It might make tis site more useful if we had thorough data. Please fill us in, thanks.
