Carbonite is ripping users off.    My data to be backed up totals nearly 500GB and I signed up for Carbonites service over one year ago.    My first complete back up is still running and has over 120 days to complete.    I have called because I feel very vulnerable.    My data is not backed up and they say that it's okay.    Their program completes the first 200 GB at a very fast rate and then they "throttle" back the speed to about one GB per day.    I was told by their technical team that I could read this if I searched in their knowledge base.    Of course, why would I do that when I gave them a go ahead to back up my files so I was protected.

Clearly the computing public is being mislead.   Someone needs to do something.   I wrote to David Friend, the CEO, and he delegated the response to an underling assistant who provide a similar corporate line as their technical support staff.    One of their tech's told me that they had complained to management about this problem but that nothing has been done to fix the problem.

A class action law suit would yield a company that would want to settle out of court and out of the public eye.    Bad press for the company is one thing but they also utilize a lot of celebrity promoters, like Rush Limbaugh and other radio personalities.    Although innocent by-standers these promoters get people to contract with the company because they trust the personality.    I would guess that a Rush Limbaugh does not use Carbonite to back up his data.    His file size wouild prohibit a full back of data for years.    Someone needs to sit up and take notice.

Carbonite offered me a pro-rated refund of the unused time.    However they have yet to complete a back up which is what I purchased.    Now my data is vulnerable.    They have to complete a back up to start the clock ticking.    What's interesting is that if my subscription had been for only one year they would not have finished backing up my files.    What kind of product is that?

I hereby warn all those looking at Carbonite as a back up service.    If you have more than 200Gb be warned that your data will not get backed up swiftly and you too will be at risk.    Don't take a chance on loosing your files.
