Hi,

I purchased a car from Car Hop in August 2014.

I had been denied at previous car loan places because I am low income and could not get approved for a loan.

I was sold on Car Hop because they claim to build your credit with your montly payments and have a 18 month, 18,000 mile warranty.

I was told I only qualified for One car off of the lot a 2001 Mercury sable. The car was far from perfect condition, but I was told they would pay the expenses to make the car in working condition, and kept reminding me of the warranty option.

They say they have a 30 day gurantee that covers any work that needs to be done. I took the vehicle to one of their mechanics right away and told him Everything that needed to be fixed. I got the car back 2 weeks later with all the same problems :(

They informed me that they have been experiencing issues with this mechanic and referred me to another one in Richmond, I live in Oakland. This mechanic claims to have fixed the vehicle another week later.

Less than a month later the same engine light that was on when I purchased the vehicle came on again. They replaced my engine with a refurbished one, another week in the shop. Another month later that engine goes out as well. The mechanic says he cant fix it, after it is in the shop Another week.

Mind you each time my car is in the shop I am responsible for a $75 diagnostic fee. I am out of a car to drive to work. Plus I am still required to pay my $344 montly payment. If you are a day late they will not work with you and will turn off your ingnition so you cannot drive.

The manager is never in the office and Never returns phone calls. Their finance department is just as cluless and makes you jump through loop and hurdles to get any type of "decision" on your vehicle.

All in all, I have had this car for 4 months, could not drive it for 2 of the 4 months and have paid almost $1500 so far on a car with a KBB value of $3,400 but came to $7,000 after all my taxes and fees.

I am extremely upset with this company and how they treat their customers. They have no value for their customers and only care about the money when their main claim to fame is that they help low income individuals.

Never get a car from Car Hop !!!!

Can anyone out there help me get out of this loan, or fight for a better vehicle??

Thanks for your reply from a better than thou point of view. I do work hard everyday at a full time job, which is why I was able to afford their ripoff monthly payment of $344 for a 2001 vehicle with over 150,000 miles on it.

Car Hop knows that the vehicle they loaned me was not safe or supposed to be on the road. The ONLY reason why I purchased the vehicle is because they guranteed it under a warranty and said they would have it running like new and safe for me and my family. They failed to fix my vehicle after multiple attempts and mechanics looking at the SAME reoccuring problem the whole 4 months I had the car.

It was not until they received my BBB complaint that a manager FINALLY was avaiable to speak to me and willing to help me. Even their conclusion was that they would they to find me another vehicle since this one was such a huge problem.

Eventually they did let me out of my loan with a satisfaction of debt, because they knew the contract that I had for the vehicle they were giving me was not ethical.

I went to another car lot and purchased a New 2012 Chevy Malibu for a Cheaper monthly payment than CarHop, the company committed to helping low inclome individuals.

Anyone interested in buying a car should go to AUTOLAND in Hayward !!! They will help you qualify for a good vehicle. :)

P.S. The author of the rebuttal and CarHop can kiss my a**!!!!!!

Typical Sub-Prime borrower

I hope you can help me out as I am a bit confused.  Your main claim is that they don't help the "low income" borrower or keep their word.  So lets see...

They financed you when no one else would...Doesn't that seem like they help the "low income" borrower?

Based on what you have reported it seems they have agreed to repair the vehicle at no cost(with the exception of the $75 diagnostic fee)....Doesn't that seem like they are fulfilling the warranty?  Are they not doing something that is explicity written into the warranty?

You like many "sub-prime" borrowers seem to think you are entitled to things you are not.  I am not really sure what type of car you expected from a 14 year old car with probably well over 100,000(perhaps even over 150,000) miles on it.  Of course it is not going to be perfect or even anything close to perfect condition.

You want a better car...then work for it.  There is nothing in the Constitution that says you are entitled to a better car, in fact it doesn't even say you are entitled to any car.  So get a second(or third job) if it is that important to you.  If you lack education go back to school, even if it is on nights and weekends.  You see the people that have the nice cars...have done things like that.

You want out of the loan...simple.  Pay it off..then not only are you out of the loan, but you now have a car you say has a Blue Book value of $3,500 to use towards a newer car.  Do that a couple of times and you may get up to a real nice car.
