You would think a company with 3billion in sales last year is making enough profits, but not enough I guess for Carl's Jr! Gotta get that stock price up!
I have noticed a difference in what the menu board said and what my receipts said for a while but didn't think it was a big deal. This week I purchased 2 different combos upgraded to medium size and in both instances I was overcharged at least 10 cents plus the tax.
I am going to a 3rd Carls this week and will take a digital photo of the menu board and the receipt to prove my case. I will go to a different area and will order another upsized combo meal.
Here is how they do it and get away with it. The menu board will state a price say of $4.99 with a 49 cent charge to make it medium size for example.But the receipt will list as follows:
dbl western 2.41
med combo fry 1.68
med dr. pepper 1.59
You see the register rings it up not as a combo but as individual items. And if you complain as I have before, the crew chief or manager will refund you the 15 cents or so and will hold the receipt.
Look 15 cents seems like chump change, but let me ask you this- how would you like billions in annual sales supplemented with a 3 % or so upsizing, it's like found money!I am willing to bet that most of Carl's Jr sales are of hamburger combos and I'd bet the farm that everyone has this "hidden surcharge"!
Stay tuned because I will be posting photo's to prove this within the next day or so and I sure hope others will notice if this has happened to them!
By the way, I left a message on their customer support line 2 days ago at 1-888-CARLS88 and of course I have heard nothing back.
What a RIPOFF OUTFIT!It sure has went downhill since the founder, Mr Carl Karcher who I met and have high esteem for,was forced into "chairman emeritus" status some years ago by the current management.
Let's stop this ripoff in its' tracks, please post your stories.

By the way I emailed photo's tonight 2-25-04 of a Carl's menu board and receipt from the other day.
I received a form letter today which did not respond at all to my concerns left at their 888 message #. I told them they were overcharging on the combo meal upsizing and I got this letter which I am also emailing in to this site tonight, and 2 cards telling me I can get 2 free $1.29 hamburgers for my bad experience. Unbelievable!
If anyone reading this goes into a Hardee's which is owned by Carl's Jr, please check your receipt. I have a gut feeling that their combos may have this "built in, hidden profit"as well and
I need the information to be posted as well so we can establish a pattern of deceptive pricing behaviour.
