I just bought my Corvette from CarMax in Laural, I'm sure I made a big mistake now. I payed $400.00 to have the car shipped here from their store in Georgia, no problem.
After taking delivery, and driving it for ONE day, there was a clacking sound when starting the car. I returned the car and was told by them they would take care of the problem. What a lie. CarMax has had my car for over 10 days and they still have not fixed the car.
The car has been in their shop all this time, as I pay for a car I can't drive. No one at the store or the other shop they finally sent the car to will address what the problem is or when I the service will be complete.
It is very apparent there was not "125 Point inspection" of this car. Car has stalled and delay at every turn. Speaking with the Asst. manager, was a waste. Her attitude was if you don't like it leave. CarMax and it's parent company should be ashame of the way they treat it's customers.

Sounds like a Car Max employee

Thanks for helping me realize I am not going to Car Max to purchase a use car. Why are you selling Chevy if they are so unreliable as you put it and you sound so condescending but I guess Car Max is not different from any other car dealership... By the way, this is not the best customer service approach to dealing with customer complaint...

Again...

I said that these are the statistics for the repair shop that I work at, I believe, without a doubt, that the statistics will vary with different information.
This is what I see daily, and information from the last year of invoices that I have. I did a quick count of vehicles outside, simply pointing out that they are very popular, especially for work trucks. If it was a fact, or as well known as Peggy said, that Chevys are junk than why do people continue to purchase them for work vehicles, that they need to run daily?
[I had an associate many years ago who had bought an '81 Chev Citation, and all he ever did was complain about the endless trouble that "GM Junk" gave him. I got into the back one day and when I placed my foot on the floor, the floor pan popped down. I asked about the popping floor and the owner THEN told us he had bought that car from an auto leasing company. Who knows how hard that car had been hit.]
I have absolutely no idea what this is supposed to mean. So the car had been hit? Of course it has problems then. I also said there are certain makes that seem to have nothing but problems, but again, that does not make all Chevys, or Fords or whatever junk. I'm not saying that the Corvette he purchased isn't junk, or that it doesn't have problems. I'm not even saying that it is a reliable vehicle. Also not saying that Chevys, or GM is incredibly reliable. I am simply saying that to say "Everyone knows that Chevys are by far some of the least reliable vehicles in the world" and that "You will experience another problem...this is a characteristic of Chevrolet automobiles that hopefully you were aware of before purchasing.." is just crap.
So it is all this guy's fault. He should have KNOWN that Chevys are junk, especially Corvettes before he purchased? That's pretty much what I get from the rebuttle. Yes, I agree everyone should do research before buying anything. But even consumer reports does not say "Chevys are unreliable, nothing but problems" Perhaps Corvettes are but not Chevy as a whole. I'm not trying to start an arguement at all, But even your info doesn't prove that Chevys are flat out unreliable vehicles! Stating that "Sounds like the joke was on YOU" and that his mistake was buying a used car is pretty much saying that he is a complete idiot and deserves these problems!

Reliability for Jennifer, et al
AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

Consumer Reports collects repair data on over 1,000,000 cars/trucks a year, and the April Issue presents the results as reliability for the major component groups as well as an overall reliability rating.
The only reporting requirements are that the vehicle must have been bought new by the respondent, and any wrecks disclosed.
[I had an associate many years ago who had bought an '81 Chev Citation, and all he ever did was complain about the endless trouble that "GM Junk" gave him. I got into the back one day and when I placed my foot on the floor, the floor pan popped down. The Corvette had a 'solid black' Consumer Reports reliability circle the last time that I looked, and 'solid black' means "worst reliability". Other Chevys were nothing to brag about, either. If you don't like this info, argue with Consumer Reports, and if you want to argue with me, first tell me how many distinct cars you have qualified data for.
For the OP, I once had a new Buick that developed a "clacking" sound (corrected under warranty) and that was caused by a loose flywheel. I have had a few starter problems, but I would not describe any as having a "clacking" sound. So your problem may be more than simply a bad starter. If your problem were a bad starter CarMax should be able to fix it quickly. And why wouldn't they?

Everyone knows that Chevys are unrealiable??

Since when? I have never heard that and I find it amazing that Peggy claims it is a well known fact, as well as the constant problem characteristics. What bull.
I'd really like to know where these uh facts come from. I certainly do not know the statistics, but at our shop alone Chevys make up 38 percent of customer vehicles. They account for about 30 percent of this last years maintenance services performed. Yet they only make up 8 percent of our repairs performed in the same period! This tells me the majority of our customers drive Chevys, they bring them in often for service, yet rarely need repair. They rank below Ford, Dodge, Honda (yes Honda & Toyota!) and others in having repairs done at our shop. And even more, the repairs that were made to the Chevys tend to be less expensive, even on the newer models, than the others also (especially Honda & Toyota). A quick glance out the window shows me 12 out of 18 vehicles I just saw are Chevys. About half of those were 99 or older. All of our business accounts own mostly Chevys many of them 1977 to 1995, and they all run just fine day in and day out. I'm sure my statistics vary from others out there, however it's hard to believe that Chevys can be THAT bad after I actually have done my research.
It's absolutly amazing that EVERYONE knows Chevys are not only unreliable, but BY FAR some of the most unreliable vehicles out there. I'm not saying that they are the most reliable, but to say they are the least (And claim the guy who bought the corvette should have known better) is just a flat out lie made by an ignorant person!
There are always certain models that come out with nothing but problems, say the mitsubishi eclipse a few years back, so maybe Peggy got one of those, or maybe she just didn't take care of the dang thing, who knows. But to say all of any make is junk is just a dumb statement, and a lame rebuttle.
Again, Peggy in Idaho, Please explain!

I've Bought Two Cars From CARMAX, Laurel, MD
AUTHOR: Don - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, November 28, 2006
I have purchased two cars from the Laurel, MD CARMAX. The first was a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII that I purchased on the Friday before 9/11/2001. I just sold that car and bought a new one from the same CARMAX on 20 November 2006 (A week ago). It is a 2003 Mercedes Benz SL500. Having had the first car over five years, I can say that it was a great deal. I paid $17,500 for a $45,000 luxury car that was three years old with 50K miles on it. I drove it everywhere as my daily driver for over five years (as well as from Maryland to South Carolina for vacations) and had very few problems with it even though it had all kinds of electronic "gingerbread" that is prone to breakage.
The one problem I had with CARMAX was with their extended warranty company. Because I would rather put up with little things being broken than go through the hassle of being out of my car and renting alternate transportation, I tend to ignore the little things going wrong until something that matters breaks. One time I had my car at the Lincoln dealer to have something that mattered fixed (throttle solenoid) and also had them fix all the "gingerbread" stuff like motorized steering wheel and seat heaters. CARMAX balked because the total price was so high.
According to the Lincoln dealer that I have a good relationship with, the moron that CARMAX sent to approve the repairs repeated over and over that he was in a hurry and declined to watch the dealer demonstrate the problems. That would have been fine except that he then went back to the office and declined half the repairs. The Lincoln dealer dealt with him for a few times and then finally I had to call. Once I called, although not real pleasant on the phone, they approved all the repairs. Lesson to me concerning CARMAX extended warranty coverage... don't save up and get multiple repairs done at once. Get stuff done as it breaks so that their adjuster approves it over the phone without a fuss.
Although I've only had the new car a week, it has been perfect also. It is still under the manufacturer's warranty for another six months or so, so I doubt I'll have any big hassles any time soon. If I do, I'll report it back.

I have purchased two vehicles from the Car Max in Laurel, MD. Bother purchases were fine transactions. The second car that I purchased came from a Car Max in Texas. It took four (4) days to arrive in Maryland. I went over the car with a fine tooth comb before I took possession. Even with my inspection the car developed a problem with the factory installed alarm system. I took the car to Car Max for service. Car Max provided me with a Volkswagen Jetta as a free loaner while they had my vehicle. It took Car Max 10 days to fix the problem. Lengthy? Yes, but I did have a loaner they was more than adequate.
Car Max is not perfect. You need to be informed before you buy. The salespeople at Car Max are not necessarily well informed about the vehicles they are showing. There are all makes and models on their lot and you need to take that into consideration. I sure did and it made all the difference in the world with my two purchases. I plan on buying from Car Max again. Pricing is fair and I like the way I was treated.

Hay Peggy, The car was test driven.

Just because you don't like Chevy products does mean I wasn't roped off. The car was test driven.
The problem was the 125 point inspection was not done as CarMax stated. They have had the car for over 10 days, to get the part and repair the car.
Check with any Chevy dealer you like, they can get a start, it's not like they don't make them any more.
The other thing your ignorant a*s or as an employee of the company (I don't know which one) don't understand is customer service. If CarMax can't stand behind the Chevy products they sell, they shouldn't sell them.

#1 Consumer Suggestion
sounds like the joke was on YOU
AUTHOR: Peggy - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Thursday, October 23, 2003
You said that you had the car shipped in from out-of-state. Did you test-drive the car before purchasing it? Everyone knows that Chevy's are by far some of the least reliable vehicles in the world. Buying a used one, and especially without testdriving it, was your first mistake.
Your second mistake was not being patient as Carmax attempts to repair your car. Did it ever occur to you that perhaps they are doing the best they can? Not all Corvette parts are readily available at any auto parts store. Many have to be ordered, and are very expensive. Do you want them to fix your car, or do you want them to fix your car RIGHT?
In addition, be aware that even when they fix the "clacking" problem you described, it is likely that you will experience another problem with your car a short while down the road. That is a characteristic of Chevrolet automobiles that hopefully you were aware of before purchasing your vehicle.
