my cousin and I attended carmike theater and I was appaled when we said something about the high prices at the concession stand and we were told that they had raised the prices because of the marines being shipped out to Iraq. I couldn't believe that she had told us this.
My cousin's husband was being shipped out the next week. I told her how awful that I thought they were. The manager came over to see what was going on. When I told him what we had been told and that my cousin's husband was being shipped out, he didn't even have the decency to say he was sorry for what had been said. He took the girl aside and argued with her and she left. I assume he fired her for telling the truth. He never spoke another word to my cousin or me.
I feel that this is an insult to the military community. She said they raise the prices when troops are being deployed and when troops are returning home from Iraq. I can't believe that an american company would take advantage of the very ones who are fighting for their freedom. This might not be a total ripoff but it is something that I feel that americans,(especially the military community) should be aware of.

#2 UPDATE Employee
Sorry for your experience.

One of the most frustrating things about going to the movies is the cost of the tickets and the concession items. Almost NONE of the ticket money goes to the theatre company. That's what helps pay the $25 million Tom Hanks or Julie Roberts gets for a movie. The reason for owning a business is to make money so if they don't make money on the tickets they must on the concession items just to stay afloat. That's just part of business.
The treatment this customer received was uncalled for. The manager should have apologized and taken care of the customer and then dealt with the employee privately. She probably didn't get fired but she may indeed have been written up.
But I have to say that she and the person that wrote the first rebuttal are incorrect. Prices aren't raised because people ship out. I live in a military town and if that were the case it would be that way all over Carmike. Carmike raises prices in response to whatever situation is going on in the company, whether that is slow business, economic changes, raising capitol for building purposes, paying off debt or repsonding to the competition prices. There are any number of reasons a business raises it's prices but it is never because our military personnel is shipping out. As managers we are informed of price increases and effective dates but NEVER a particular reason for that increase.
I have been with this company and around this company for 15 1/2 years and while I have my own complaints with the company I can guarantee that the customer is THE most important part of our business. The owners and officers would not appreciate any customer being told such a falsehood and they would not appreciate the customer being shrugged off by the manager.
As for the first rebuttal to this, please remember that is an ex-employee and ex-employees of any business tend to be bitter enough to not see things as they really are and not remember things as they really were. We do advertise for the National Guard on a continual basis but I'm not sure how that makes the company look bad.

Ex-Carmike Managment
Let me start out by saying I know the district manager for that area who is half the problem. He wants to run his district from his house making an appearence a couple times a year. While said very poorly, what the girl told you was in fact right. However; the extra money charged and then some was given to charity for marines and ex-marines. Carmike cinemas also has an on going participation with the national gaurd(passing out thing in the lobby and on screen ads . So, while the girl should have recieved a writeup to teach her to think before she speaks terminating her was immoral and plain ingorant. I would highly suggest you send a copy of your report to carmike or send it straight to the dm do05@carmike.com (thats d o as district office & zero five).I know they will send you free tickets deff. 100%. If you send this to them i would recommend you send it to both. P.s-it dont matter how long ago it was
