CARNEY'S CAPE MAY, NJ We went to Carney's (1st time) for dinner on the evening of September 23rd, 2011. The service wasn't great and the waitress was short with us so we didn't leave a tip. The next day, the owner debited CAPE MAY, New Jersey

On September 23rd, 2011, my husband and I went to Carney's Restuarant in Cape May, NJ for a late dinner. The food was mediocre and the service was marginal at best. There was a discrepancy with our bill. When my husband asked the waitress (she was also the manager of this restuarant) about it, she gave us an attitude and got huffy about it. Therefore we did not leave her a tip which was our choice. The next day, the owner debited our card for an extra $10.00 for her tip which we did not authorize in any way, shape or form. When we called him and asked him to rectify it, he tried to justify it by saying that she deserved it and had worked for them for over 20 years. He said she had never done anything wrong, and that she deserved to get this tip regardless and that it was "his call, and, not ours." One does not do business this way! This action of the owner and manager stealing from us makes these people common thieves!!" We would never recommend anyone to eat at Carney's Restuarant in Cape May, NJ. Just an FYI to the public, always pay with CASH!!!

Going against my normal grain

I normally go against those who look to stiff wait staff at restaurants, but in your case I got to say the manager not only had a hell of a nerve, he probably committed a crime.

I'd not only dispute it with your card issuer, but file a complaint with the local cops or DA office too.

The server gave you attitude, you don't owe her spit (no restaurant humor pun intended).

Don't let it go. You can make a lot of trouble for this jacka**.

Carney's Restuarant in Cape May, NJ; I for one shall remember what they do.

Don't let them get away with it.

Contact your card company and file a dispute.   Most of them take a dim view of restaurants adding their own tips.   Hopefully, you still have your receipt for the transaction, which does not include a tip on the tip line.
