I booked a cruise on the Carnival Freedom for 10-31-10. The ship was delayed coming into port. Carnival never contacted me and let me know. This cost me a lot of money due to planning for boarding from 12pm to 2:30pm. I boarded the ship at 7:20pm. The ship departed late at night. Dining was changed to walk-in only.
I went to the pier then drove back home and spoke with Carnival. Carnival told me when I get back to the pier there would be a letter explaining everything and what compensation was being offered. Nothing was given to me at the pier. I wrote Carnival a letter. They refused to offer compensation.
My feeling is I paid for the day and missed most of it. Therefore, Carnival should have offered some form of compensation. I have cruised with them at least 6 times in the last year. This is poor customer service. They want my money but when they inconvience you Carnival does not care. Carnival does not really care about loyal customers or the potential loss of new customers that had this negative experience.
Shame on them!

The problem is all the misinformation by personnel involved. Starting from not providing advanced notice to paying for and losing part of the day. I would have suggested a small on board credit.

This is one of the most bogus complants I have ever read. How is it a rip off that the cruise left late? Last I checked, cruises were advertised by how many nights they sail.
How about all those people on the previous cruise who missed their flights? Those people are out hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars and you want to whine and cry because you decided to drive home to wait the few extra hours it took to board?
Get over it. This isn't a rip off. They owe you nothing.

Boarding was suppose to be from 12 to 2:30. You actually boarded at 7:20, 4 hours and 50 minutes later and the ship left "late that night. It was your deceision to drive back home. How much time and gas did you spend driving back and forth? I've waited in airports for over 8 hours for delayed flights. What, in your opinion should they compensate you for those 4 hours and 50 minutes lost? A free cruise?
