Carpet Mill Outlet, Inc. ripoff! Dishonest refund practices! They owe us $1000! Very bad customer service! Barrington Illinois

My wife and I went into Carpet Mill Outlet (Barrington, Illinois location) on Saturday, March 20th to purchase laminated flooring for our living room / dining room area - after deciding on the product and advising the sales person Harry of our estimated square footage (which we estimated at 300), we were told the estimated cost would be $2000. We were then asked for a deposit of $1,000, which we were clearly told was refundable.

The measuring person came to measure Monday evening - after doing the measuring, he would not tell me the square footage he measured out - he simply said this is Harry's job to figure out the totals and he'll get back to us with a final figure. The next day he advises us the square footage is well over 400 square feet, to be exact 448. We advised him that was too much, that we would not pay the $3200 plus he was asking. He then comes back later in the evening and advises he added up wrong, that the square footage was 412 and the cost would be approximately $2700 - still much higher than he initially quoted, and why wasn't this the total he gave in the first place? We advised we want our deposit back, he advised it's in the mail. Tuesday we find out our check had been cashed.

We ended up going to another carpet store which measured our area to be 340 square feet. And they told us what it was right after they measured. As you can see, quite a difference of over 100 square feet.

My wife had made numerous phone calls over the last week, but all she was getting was the run around - the owner would not respond. All she is asking is for the deposit back! These people have not provided us any service, only attempted to rip us off. She has probably been on the phone over 20 times with this company, only to get the run around from a secretary or this Harry character. Legally we have 3 days to get our money back, and we requested it in 2. They are breaking the law and have stolen from us.
