On December 31, 2005, my husband and I decided to go to Carrabbas Italian Grill, for New Years Eve Dinner. We had been given a certificate from a local radio station, (B101 Radio WBEB), from the Philly area, and wanted to celebrate. This was our very first time there, and since we both love italian food, as well as hearing all the commercials, we wanted to visit the restaurant for the first time.
When we arrived, we had to wait 15 minutes for a seat, which was not the issue. However, when we ordered Grilled Salmon for my husband, and Chicken Marsala for myself, that was where the problem began. My husband was unable to consume all of his food, stating at that time, that he was full and could eat no more. When we got home around 6 PM EST, he stated that he was not feeling well, and wanted to stretch out on the bed.
About 4 to 6 hours later, my husband all of a sudden rushed to the bathroom, where he became violently ill. He began to vomit very severely, had severe stomach cramps, and more. I immediately called our doctor, who advised me of the necessary medical treatments, and if the vomiting continued, to go to the hospital. As a result, he spent the next three days very ill, and unable to eat regular food.
Four days later, he is still having stomach problems, though not as severe. He went to the doctors, where they gave him medication. I did contact the restaurant in question, and while the manager on duty, (Jimmy, I believe his name was.), "apologized" for the occurence, he insisted that they make sure the food us prepared properly, going so far as to state that they make sure the seafood is frozen properly. He offered me another free dinner, but I refused.
I saved the remaining food in our freezer, and have contacted my attorney, because I firmly believe the fish was not prepared properly. Is there anything else I can do??

Ridiculous Consumer

To the consumer, you are absolutely incorrect in your accusation against Carrabba's. There is absolutely no way that the salmon he ingested 6 earlier could have caused your husband to be sick. The reason he was having trouble eating it is because something he ate the day before was starting to make him ill.
You should call "Jimmy" and apologize up and down. Offer him a free meal on YOU. It is a travesty that you feel you can push your weight as a consumer around even when you are so blatantly wrong. Kudos to Jimmy for taking one for his team, but it's people like you that absolutely make me sick.

Food poisoning

Food poisoning does not occur within "4 to 6 hours" as you alleged. It takes 24-36 hours after ingesting contaminated food before the first symptoms appear. Therefore, it was NOT the restaurant's fault that your husband got sick -- it was clearly something that he had eaten the previous day. You are lucky that they gave you another free meal. May I suggest a sincere apology to the manager the next time you go? Not only did you jump the gun with your accusations, but to throw in a legal threat as well is highly inappropriate.

We contacted the restaurant again, and they gave us a gift certificate. we had no intention of using it, but then decided that on my 37th birthday to do so. We actually got to speak with the manager that night, he profusely apologized for what occured, and they made sure everything was cooked properly. Overall, it was a nice 2nd chance, and I would definitely go there again.
