I got a call from some guy this afternoon. Actually two calls, one at 2:04 p.m. and another 45 minutes later. I was taking a nap when he called but he did leave a voice message (I saved it on the off chance they can actually do something about this jackass). He said his name was Officer Neil Smith from the Department of Law & Investigation. Right off, that struck me as odd - an Anglo name but the caller sounded Indian or Arabic. This Officer Smith,or whatever his real name happens to be,claimed I took out a loan from CashnetUSA. I have a payday loan I am paying on,but it darn sure wasn't from Cashnet. He said I needed to call a different number than the one he was calling from to discuss,as he put it,a "sensitive" situation. I might have been born at night, but not last night. Some guy I don't know from Jack calls me and says to call him about some bogus loan I need to repay, that's a no-brainer. I haven't called him back and don't intend to. He concluded the call by saying that if they didn't hear from me,what he could do was 'wish me luck in the situation that fell around me' (nice English, huh?). Well, that pissed me off more than anything. You can talk about me all you want, but don't ever threaten me. That's the quickest way to start trouble with me. For most of the afternoon I was dealing with this situation. I got in touch with my bank,CashnetUSA,the FTC and some cyber crime group associated with the FBI. I have been checking online about this and from what I read, this scam has been going on for some time now;I am just the latest victim,it would seem. I also read other people's stories and they say this person allegedly has personal info about them. "Officer Smith" may have said something about that in my call, but I could barely make out every other word he was saying. In any case,I'm not going to cave and I sure as hell am not going to pay them anything just to make this go away. They can rant and rave and curse and threaten me all they like. They'll be doing it over voicemail until I can get the number changed.

YOU know it is a scam and hang - no need to change your phone number. Just call them what they are and if they call back use a whistle or other loud instrument.

Well, surprise surprise. One week later and they are still at it. I reported them last Wednesday and today they called me back from a different number. Same name (but possibly a different person this time) and same spiel. Their memory must be pretty short,or else they just think I'm Booboo the Fool. They said it was their fourth voicemail to me. Counting today and the ones from last week,I only got 3. Reported them to iC3,told my bank about the situation,my credit reporting company, and everyone else I could think of. I'm fed up with these hucksters. If they ever find them and press charges,d**n skippy I'll be one of the first to file against them. This is beyond harassment now.
