I may have been scammed , I never thought it would happen to me but it did. Now I'm marked on the credit report. My spouse and I always pay bills on time, we don't have many to pay either. We got bills from Quest diagnostics and have receipts proving that we payed. We then received a collection notice from ccs saying that we owe a different amount, $60, for not paying Quest Diagnostics. I talked with a representative and they could not help me nor give me any information on this amount. I have not received any bill for this amount, nor any final notice of payment. CCS did not offer any information on what it is we owe for, I have no idea what this is for. If I owe this amount I should have been notified in some way. if I do owe this amount and some one would send a ligit bill I would pay it. CCS told me to call Quest Diagnostics but they cannot help as of yet.

I am not the only person suffering from this problem, there are others on the net that are going through the same kind of thing with the same company.

I need this to be taken care of, can anyone help me or give advice on how to go about getting this taken care of and remove my now tarnished name from credit reporting companies.

Hopefull

Mail a letter to all three reporting agencies + the collection agency via Registered Mail with Return Receipt. It will cost $3 each but it's worth it. Simply state in each letter:

I do not recognize this alleged debt. Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act I am requesting that this debt be validated.

To speed things up, include a photocopy of your driver's license and social security card with each letter sent to the credit bureaus. If you don't include these items, the credit bureaus may write back and request this information, delaying your request by around a month. DO NOT include these items for the letter to the collection agency.

Under normal circumstances the credit bureaus should remove the negative notations. If they don't and write back that the debt has been validated, you have a fight on your hands.

If CCS has placed bogus negative information on your credit files and one (or all) credit bureaus have come back claiming that this alleged debt has been validated as legitimate, you should:

#1) Send a Registered Mail with Return Receipt directly to CCS , stating the following:

I have already paid this firm and this alleged new debt is not mine and CCS is in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act in reporting erroneous negative information to the credit bureaus that I owe this debt. If this erroneous entry is not removed from my credit file within thirty days, I plan to file official charges against CCS with the Massachusetts Attorney General , as well as take other actions per my rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
