I purchased a health insurance policy from this company three years ago. My premium started out at around $150 a month. Every six months a rate increase comes in the mail. In three years they doubled my premium. I contacted the company and spoke with a customer service representative about there possibly being a mistake. She advised me that there was no mistake. "They quote low rates online to get the new business" and then raise the premium to extremely high rates.
It should also be noted that if you buy health insurance, they always ask you about every time you have taken a medicine and every time you have seen a doctor. They have two years to cancel the policy if something has been omitted.
So if you buy this insurance at a low price, during the 1st two years if you have a heart attack, you may not be covered because you forgot about some antibiotic you took when you were 8. Insurance companies know the insurance laws better than you and they know that they don't really have to pay some major claim during the 1st two years because the application is part of the policy and then they raise the rates to an amount that makes you look elsewhere and always find a lower rate. Unfortunately this is not illegal.
Think about this when considering a health insurance company.

When you apply for insurance with this company, they ask you everything about your health. EVERY THING! They also ask you if there is any other health issue that has not been asked. If you buy this policy, and during the first two years you have a major claim, they can avoid paying it by saying you omitted something from your application. It doesn't have to be anything major. ANYTHING! This company charges a low almost insane premium to get you in, and then they raise the premium to a rate that is unaffordable within two years. It is playing the odds. They know that in a court of law, they can and will find something you omitted, so they don't have any major claims to pay.
None. No lawyer would touch the case once they have told them that you omitted something on an application. Insurance companies are scum and Celtic is on top of the pile, in my opinion. Celtic just makes it so apparent. You being a broker should be able to see your customers dropping this company within two years. That is their MO.

With Celtic as with any decent health insurer in the individual market, to avoid a claim denial it is CRUCIAL to be honest about your health history with regard to significant health issues specified on the application. Once your health history is disclosed and an offer of coverage is made, you will know which pre-existing conditions you are or are not covered for so there should be no surprises when you file a claim down the road. In some states if you have proof of prior coverage and want coverage for serious pre-existing conditions that might otherwise be excluded, such plans are available but for a premium--- just like with ANY insurance---the higher the risk, the higher the premium.
It is NOT necessary to recall every minor illness or injury you had. Insurers are interested generally only in the last 5 or 10 years. They may also ask if you have EVER had certain conditions. You need'nt diclose anything not specifically asked about. Pay careful attention to the literal meaning of the questions asked.
Regarding rate increases, depending how a carrier has filed within a state, in the individual market they often do raise rates as often as every six months. I'm sure your agent would have told you about this had you asked or maybe even did tell you but you forgot.
