My husband and I recently had some financial problems which caused a couple checks to bounce.

First let me say that we want to make these checks good!

We keep getting phone call from a company called Certegy who my husband has only been able to speak to one time. Every time they call now and we answer there is no one there, nothing but dead air and no one ever picks up.

The one time my husband actually talked to someone they did not tell my husband who the check had been written to, what the check number was or the amount owed, only wanted to know when we could pay it. My husband said in 2 weeks and they guy told him, "That's not good enough!" and hung up on him. They also refused to send a bill or invoice or soemthing in writing so they we can make this check good.

I don't know what to do! How can we pay this if they won't give us any information to do so?

Can a debt collector just call you and the phone and demand money without sending you anything in writing? The only way we even know who it is that is calling is because we have caller ID, but basically we don't know who they are from Adam!

Then last night we get a call from some hateful person threatening legal charges from a place called Check (Chek) Systems and they won't send me anything in the mail either. We tried to call back the phone number that came up on caller ID after this idiot hung up on us and it was a fax machine. I did a reverse lookup on the internet and it came back as being an invalid phone number.

So how do I even contact these people? I have never recieved anything in the mail from anyone about these checks (they claim they sent a letter, yeah right)can they just demand money over the phone with nothing in writing to show who I am paying or how?
