I am willing to bet that you found yourself looking at this the same way I did.  I followed an ad on craigslist and began a phone interview that was something along the lines of, "What is your name, where do you live, do you have reliable transportation, and do you have internet access for a webinar training."  I replied yes to all of the above, and that was it... "Welcome to the team!"

It really was not much of an interview process, therefore I became suspicious, as I am sure you have.  I read a few reports mostly from people that do not have industry specific sales experience.  Having the experience that I do, I figured that I could break it down a little better.  I mean someone with my skill set should successful with this company.

The Training:
The initial webinar training is not very comprehensive.  If you have no experience in this capacity, you may as well forget it.  Merchants these days typically know a lot more about the industry than you will and they can smell it.  You are dealing with peoples money and it is going to be difficult to gain their trust if you don't know what you are talking about.

The Appointments:
AT EVERY SINGLE APPOINTMENT the merchant was either not there or told me that when they spoke to CPP on the phone, they told them NOT to send anyone.

After running several appointments I was beginning to wonder how these leads were being qualified.  Upon asking, my question was dodged.  I figured I would give it some more time and run some more appointments, maybe I was just unlucky.  Well, I did, and again none of them were legitimate.  You might as well throw darts at a yellow pages, and whatever business you hit, just go there.

Upon continuing to run appointments I achieved the same results of unqualified appointments, I asked again, this time the person on the phone was absolutely rude and degrading.  Furthermore, he tried to put the blame on me, saying that I should be able to turn it around if I had a better attitude.

The commission:
In all fairness you can make a decent income if you have the drive.  However, you can easily find a better pay structure as an independent.  The commission is not worth it if you are self generating all of your deals.  As in any sales position, you will get back what you put in, but it is really not worth it provided that you have to self generate all of your deals anyway.

Competitiveness of CPP vs. other processors:
The rates that CPP has hardwired into their application far exceed average rates.  They will make exceptions if price is an obstacle in signing a merchant.  They try to make you believe that rates should not matter as they are providing "value-added" services.  It is true that you will back yourself into a wall if you sell based strictly on price, but I can't seem to find out what "value-added" products they really offer.  One thing they try to sell is the fact that they are the only processor that can provide "customized receipts" which is absolute trash.  Nearly any processor can provide this, besides that doesn't really "wow" any merchant.  There are much better solutions out there for adding value into merchant processing.

Solution:
So, overall doing business with this company was a waste of time and an embarrassment.  Save yourself time and fuel and skip it.  If you are really motivated and serious about succeeding in this industry just make some posts on linkedin and find yourself an independent agent deal.  The pay will be better and you might actually find someone that will give you the tools, training, and support that you will need.

Best of luck in your job search!
