I recently (March 2010) purchased a home where the previous owners had paid Champion to install siding and two windows.  My home inspector found problems with the siding installation.  Champion made all of the repairs.  I was told at closing by the previous owners that the Champion Warranty was a transferable lifetime warranty.  I was so impressed that with Champion I begin talking to them about the installation of a sliding patio door and more replacement windows.  Thier prices were twice as expensive as most of thier competitors.  To justify the difference in price they stress thier quality and this lifetime transferable warranty.  I was told over and over that they stood behind thier products and that this warranty was a lifetime full replacement transferable warranty.  In the meantime one of the windows started looking hazy so I tried to wash it and I could not get it clear.  I called Champion to come and see what was wrong.  I suspected that the seal had leaked between the panes.  The windows are only 6 years old.  Since I had been reminded over and over by thier rep how they stood behind thier products I was confident that they would replace this defective window. Not so.  I was told that if the original owners had reported the problem they would have repaired the window at no charge.  I told them that my warranty was transferable.  Not so, they said.  The warranty was transferable for windows installed in 2007 or later and since mine was in '04, it wasn't.  Hey, either you stand behind your product or you don't.  Beware they will weasel thier way out of their warranty.  Save you're money, buy a good replacement door or window at a fraction of the Champion price and hire a reputable contractor to install them.  You will save a fortune, get equal or better quality and not have to deal with people who mislead you.

Misunderstanding

AUTHOR: Blaine - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 15, 2010

I was able to work things out.  I was misled by the previous owners not Champion about the warranty.  I will do business with them again in the future.
