I`ll give you an example of what these rip off artists (can`t even call them artists CROOKS)do.I go to the ATM withdraw 40 dollars,go again withdraw 100 dollars,go again 3 more time withdrawing 60,40,80.Now everytime I made a withdrawal the money was in my account,In the mean time I wrote acheck for 400 dollars when it went thru there was insufficient funds. Now heres where they rip you off, they go back and charge me for every withdrawal a 39 dollar charge that 5x39=195 dollars and 35 for the check=240.Instead of all the withdrawal going thru and charging  just the 35 overdraft.Enen though I have a direct deposit going in that day for 1600 dollars. They give you some run around saying the check was on hold.

PS: This is robbery and its happened to many people I know

Lets see if i follow you.

You did 5 withdrawls from an ATM. Then you wrote a check for 400$ that would not clear. Check your agreement with the bank, mine does say they will process transactions from highest to lowest, and that they will process checks first. That is likely what occured, a check is usually processed first so the 400$ went out of your account. Then the ATM withdrawls went and all bounced. Then your deposit went through to the bank.

Remember, you spent this money BEFORE the deposit went to the bank. You should never spend money unless the deposit has already occured. Sorry, but this is how all banks work.

Your only hope is to go to the bank and ask them to reverse the charges. If you have never overdrafted before, they will probably reverse some of the charges. If you habitually overdraft, they will not budge.

Here shortly Ronnie is going to come along and tell you that this bank is evil. He's going to tell you that all these bank defenders are going to come along and mock you for what you did. Then karl will tell you to google a donkey and a toyota. But let me give you some advice, go in to your bank with your statement. Sit down with someone and have them explain the system to you so that it will not happen to you again in the future.

before the argument even starts: This is a prime example of when overdraft protection would not have mattered. Even if he had opt-ed out of the over draft protection all of these fees would have occured. Additionally, if he did not have the overdraft protection that 400$ check would have been returned and he would likely be seeing legal action from whomever he wrote it to.
