ChemDry: I am not a spiteful person but my experience with Chemdry has fallen short of my expectations. I feel I have been ripped off for a few reasons I wish to state. Besides having the most boring training class I ever attended where all we did was sit in a room for five days and was read the slides on the projector. I was then subjected to a vp of franchise who told me my population has gone up and if I don't buy another franchise in my own territory they will put another Chemdry franchise into my territory I just bought!. No allegiance to the new franchisee but "hey, if you don't buy it I have someone else that will".Great Job Chemdry..keep me motivated to keep my franchise. Soon I was sold a machine that ate up my profits even though I was told by all my franchise friends not to do it( I tried to be a good franchisee but they were right) I did this so I could work their Home Depot proposition which was not only an incredible waste of time but cost me thousands of dollars for nothing. Even though I was assured that I would get hundreds of leads which were a lie. The Home Depot didn't even want me in their store! But no'.the vp of marketing said "if you don't do it I will get someone else to.Again, Great Motivation Harri.I really want to get my franchise moving!
I am sounding quite bitter but honestly my phone calls are not returned. My training person can't help me with any questions I have about my equipment that keeps breaking down and when I talk to marketing they keep telling me the problems I am having with the Home Depot are my problems! I am merely asking for help and direction! It is clear that Harris is not in touch with the franchisee of today. They are working this model like it was back in the seventies! I don't knowmaybe it is me but just try and get Am___ to return a phone call let alone be able to answer the question smartly. Sorry. I really didn't want to list names and I will try not to. I also suggest you never be late with a payment or insurance certificate. I got a call from their Franchise Department which talked to me like I was a piece of garbage that they didn't get my van insurance certificate....BTW - they misplaced it and I never got an apology just cold banter from the franchise admin who is charge. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...Icy...cold...uncaring....
Tile and Stone: I guess this is a new segment of the business where I have been getting phone calls from some guy who sounds like a bad Tony Soprano. I don't know anything about this new brand of theirs but hearing" you better buy it now or else". Or else what? What kind of nonsense is this? I try to talk to the guy about how this brand can help me and all I get is a very unskilled sales gibberish. Harris, we are not dumb franchisees just people who want to grow their business and not have it grown for them. I can tell this guy is only looking to hit a sales number or some quota
NHance: I am confused about this brand because from what I am hearing it is going against the cold Harris way of doing business, From what my fellow franchisees tell me, this brand was going no where 18 months ago when the whole Nhance management team up and quit.(no surprise) But they brought in some guy from Pepsi a year ago and much to my amazement they love now being a NHance franchisee. I understand he brought in a team that not only cares about the franchisee but helps them build their business and marketing programs. What a novel approachcaring about the people who pay your check! I understand the franchisees are buying more territory on their own accord (not being pushed into it like i was) and get this. The Home Depots want them in their stores. My Home Depot asked me if I was a NHance dealer and if I wasn't how can I find one for his store. The store manager told me everyone wants NHance in their store!! I almost came out of my skin hearing this as he told me to take down my signs. I am no longer in the The Home Depot. It was a big waste of time and my money.
The oddest conversation for me was when I called this guy at Harris who runs NHance and asked him about becoming a NHance franchisee(because of what my Home Depot Manager wanted) He then talked me out of it because I was not ready!! He convinced me to get my ChemDry business more solid then approach him about a year from now with a solid business plan his team would help me put together! I learned more from this guy the half hour I talked to him about franchising than anyone I ever spoke to at Harris odd I think he cared about me and not hurting my existing ChemDry business and I felt good at the end of the call! Not once did the Tile and Stone guy ask me how I was doing and offered any of what I described above. I really think I can't afford to do Tile and Stone right now but honestly he didn't care how I was doing. Maybe he will call me again and offer me a "deal I can't refuse"..LOL he did...free shipping..What a putz. I can't understand how can one piece of Harris business be so different than the other two...I am sure Harris will steer Nhance to the dark side soon.
Anyway, this is my storyI hope it helps any future franchisee who want to do carpet cleaning consider some other franchise or one who cares about them.

Makes U Go Hummmmm

I was quite surprised when I stumbled across this post. Let me introduce myself, I am part of the whole Nhance management team that up and quite 18 months ago.
this brand was going no where 18 months ago I beg to differ.from its inception N-Hance has been a powerful brand. During my time with N-Hance we were recognized by Franchise Times for being one of top 55 fastest growing franchise systems in the country. Entrepreneur Magazine recognized us in their top 500 in multiple categories. N-Hance was recognized as one of the BEST home based business opportunities. N-Hance did a National expansion under this management team and increased location coverage from six regional states to a Coast to Coast brand. It added additional vertical opportunities for its Franchisees to increase their individual revenue. All modeled after Chem-Dry, all done using Chem-Dry's resources, all done using a shared R&D team with Chem-Dry. Hardly the Darth Vader your post would lead one to believe. The entire Chem-Dry team helped make N-Hance the brand that it is.
Let's clear up this misconception the Leadership Team for N-Hance did not leave because of Harris Research, Inc. or the way that Harris Research, Inc. conducts its relationships with its employees or the franchisees. The Team went to pursue different opportunities and several members of that team have expressed a desire to return to HRI. Harris Research, Inc. has stayed true to its founder's original vision. That vision is to provide a business opportunity for anyone seeking to own their own business. HRI does it without a heavy tax burden to its franchisees.
I have been in franchising almost my entire adult life. I know my way around this business. Let me tell you all the things that HRI DOESN'T DO FOR THEIR FRANCHISEES!
1. They do not penalize their franchisees for their hard work through a taxation policy of requiring them to pay double digit royalties to HRI Corporate. HRI's flat rate royalty structure is one of the most economical business opportunities in the franchising world.
2. They do not bloat the corporate head count with redundancy and maintain one of the lowest zor/zee ratios I have ever seen. If a franchisee doesn't get the fact their survivability is directly correlated to the Franchisor's survivability then maybe they shouldn't be in business for themselves.
3. HRI does not burden the franchisee with complicated reporting structures and lets the franchisee self manage and grow their business with minimal interference. This does not mean HRI is hands off .. but holy *&!@ if you are one of those people who think all they have to do is buy a franchise and they are wealthy without putting your own effort forth you should of stayed working for the Post Office.
4. HRI does not guarantee your success. They provide you the opportunity to pursue the American Dream. Now go out and go to work. My gut says you could have booked a job or two in the time it took you to cleverly post your comments.
I have worked for some of the biggest franchising companies in the business. I know the difference between a good Franchisor and a bad one. Harris Research, Inc. is one of the best. Are they perfect? I know first hand they are not. That being said I do know they put forth a lot of energy, effort dollars and time to develop tools to assist their network both with N-Hance and Chem-Dry.what they cant control is the enthusiasm, energy, competency and drive of individual franchise owners..but you know what neither can any other franchise company in the world.you have to do that yourself.
Just go to work!

how to get the "told story" on chemdry (or any other franchise for that matter)

Thanks for the heads-up. I was starting to look into a chemdry franchise and found your helpful post. Here's some good advice for others looking at chemdry or any other business.
I've been looking at a few different business opportunities for the last couple months and have learned that with a franchise, if you ask them for it, the company has to send you a large document containing a lot of useful insider information about the company (i.e. list of all franchise owners w/ phone numbers, list of franchises that failed w/ phone numbers, law suits filed against them by the franchise owners, two of the six that I now have even show exactly how much money I could make with a franchise).
Some of the companies I've contacted didn't seem to really want to send one to me but when I reminded them that it was the law they quickly gave in. Four of the companies call it their Uniform Franchising Offering Circular and others call it something else. Just describe it to them and they should know what you're talking about. SO I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE LOOKING INTO A FRANCHISE SHOULD REQUEST ONE OF THESE. I have six of them from different franchises so far and got them all for free just by filling out their applications and requesting one. I still plan to request one from chemdry for comparison purposes.
Also, you should check to ensure that the NHance company is really part of chemdry. They may just be a home depot service provider. My brother installs water heaters for a home depot in Dallas and he said he thinks NHance is an independent contractor and not owned by home depot or chemdry.
How can I get a hold of the NHance guy you spoke with? I'm pretty close to a decision on what business I'm going with but it sounds interesting enough that I wouldn't mind learning more. You can email me directly at happytexican@gmail.com.
I sincerely hope things get better for you.
