When trying to ask a simple question about authenticity of the merchandise sold on the chessler books website, the owner of the book store sent a scathing, insulting email to me, not once, but twice.

In a modern day world where billions of dollars are lost by Ponzi schemes, frauds and scams, I would really think twice about buying ANYTHING from a company that refuses to be honest or open to questions about their legitimacy.

If at all possible, avoid doing business with this company.

#3 Consumer Comment

an absurd premise

AUTHOR: monkeyboyrob - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 21, 2010

to be clear, i am not in the trafficking or consumption of signed books, despite owning a few that i hope will net a profit on the unfortunate demise of their authors.

but, really-  does anyone believe that it would be in the interest of the owner of chessler books to offer fraudulent merchandise?  dozens if not hundreds, of authors regularly sign copies for chessler, and hundreds if not thousands, of signed books have passed through the chessler catalog over the last twenty six years.  it simply does not stand to reason that this complaint has any legitimate foundation.

as a climber and an occasional reader of climbing literature, i have purchased a handful of books from chessler over the last twenty four years, without the remotest difficulty.

to garner a couple of hundred bucks worth of my scant purchasing power in the last six years, michael chessler has spent an absurd ten to fifteen hours on phone conversations with me, to be sure that i was pointed in the right direction in my title choices.  this is hardly the business model of a scam artist-  he certainly has not made any money off of me...

michael chessler would not know me if i smacked him in the head with an ale soaked guidebook, so i can assure you that i've been treated with no favoritism, nor do i harbor personal bias to the favor of chessler books.

indeed, DO business with this company-  unless your demands are somehow out of this world, you will not be disappointed.

#2 REBUTTAL Owner of company

No Verbal Slander

AUTHOR: Chessler Books - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 22, 2008

This non-customer demanded a "certificate of authenticity" for an autographed item, which he did not purchase from us. He is not a customer and has had no transactions with us. We believe COA's are ridiculous and meaningless pieces of paper often supplied with cheap exploitive products, and we supply ample proof of authenticity with autographed items we sell. Since this person became abusive and rude, we responded in kind when he pressed us to jump through hoops of his own imagination. The internet has allowed people with a propensity towards rudeness to proliferate and harass legitimate merchants, who like us have tens of thousands of satisfied customers, as evidenced by our 25 years in business, and a 11,000 plus positive feedback rating on ebay (which supplies under 5% of our business).
