I have a 1999 Chevy Malibu, while under warranty I had taken the vehicle in, at the least...4 times for rattling on the front end, as well as some other issues. Service Dept here could not find anything...does'nt surprise me!
The Chevy Malibu at under 47100 miles has had the following go wrong.......Lower and Upper Intake Valve/Gasket cost of repair $735.00, Front Tire Rod need replaced estimate at $200.00 on the lowend(could this be the rattling!!!) Battery corrosion, clean tray, replace cables $95.00,
Altenator replaced $354.34.
I'd like to know if there is any type of reimbursement from GM for these repairs.
This is extremely unusual for a Chevy Product, especially at this low mileage. Also had the repairs done outside of the dealer due to the dealers written estimate was more than double of what I stated above. I have a Chevy S10 1998 as well, was really glad to hear someone else did'nt receive the recall on the wiper motor, because I have the same problem...can we use that recall notice?
My truck has over 90000 miles on it...I know its a Chevy because the only replacement on it has been normal wear and tear(battery,it also corroded) The Malibu, however I wonder if Ford stuck the Chevy decal on one of their products...never have I been so disappointed in a Chevy product...so I ask ...is this really a Chevy????

Dumb and Dumber

If you are dumb enough to buy a Chevy, then you must be dumb enough to make the statement you made about Fords. I have owned 2 brand new GM cars. 1985 Chevy Cavalier and a 1986 Pontiac Trans Am. Both were complete crap.
The Cavalier's engine died at 55k Miles, of course the extended warranty was only good until 50K. The Trans Am never ran right from the first day and the mechanics were clueless, but as soon as the warranty was up, they told me I needed a new carburetor for about $600.00.
The manual transmission bolts fell out at 13K miles. The shifter bounced up and down when I accelerated. The cost to fix this problem, which should never have occured to begin with, was incredibly high.
Next the right headlight became stuck in the up position. I began to notice that almost every Pontiac car that had the popup headlights, had the same one stuck up.
I called Pontiac about this, but they denied there was a problem, but there obviously was based on the number of their cars with the same problem. The refused to issue a recall. GM just plain sucks. That's why I switched to Ford. I have owned 3 Mustang GT's over the last 12 years.
While the do occasionally have mechanical problems, they are not nearly as severe or as often as the ones I experienced with GM. So if you think anyone switched company insignias on your Chevy, must be a Hyundai.
