I have been a long time customer of Chevron and have also been a long time customer of GE financial which is now called GE Money Bank. Not too long ago, Chevron sold off it's consumer credit card business to GE financial services which has since been changed to GE Money Bank. GE financial Services was changed to GE Money Bank so that they would qualify for federal bail out monies for financial insitutions who were in financial trouble.
On or about June, 2009, I received my statement which indicated that my account had been paid in full in May, but was one day late. The problem for GE Money Banks claim was that I mailed the payment to them via certified mail and it only took 2 days to arrive. Therefore, GE Money bank claims that I was one day late and charged me a $29 late fee despite paying the account in full and on time. When I inquired, I received the same old poor customer service and they refused to refund my $29. I then instructed them to close my account to which they refused and mentioned they wanted to keep a good customer like me and offered a 10 cent per gallon of gas discount if I remained a customer. I refused the 10 cent offer and stated I wanted my account closed if they did not refund my $29.
Due to the nature of my situation and because GE Money Bank is now regulated by the Office of the Thrift, I filed a formal written complaint aganst GE Money Bank with the Office of the Thrift and provided them copies of documents supporting my complaint. Don't bother writting the senior leadership of Chevron or GE Money Bank as it is a mere waste of your time! All that the consumer needs to do is file a former written complaint with the Office of the Thrift which can be found on-line at: http://www.ots.treas.gov/
Consumers should not waste their time talking to the customer reps at GE Money Bank as they are useless sheep who only follow the orders of senior leadership and can't think for themselves. GE Money Bank as I mentioned is in financial trouble and are trying to get out of their financial problems by sticking questionable late fee's etc. to their remaining good customers. I think this questionable and perhaps illegal activity is a slap in the face to good consumers like myself.
We as consumers can send them a loud and clear mesage by closing out ALL of our accounts with GE Money bank!

Chevron and GE Money Bank

I fail to see why you place any blame on Chevron Corporation as they are not in the "credit card business" they merely provide a convenience to customers (just like countless other merchants) by allowing GE Money Bank to "finance" their products and services with a "branded" credit card. Most of the "consumer store cards" are offered by GE Money Bank because GE is the largest issuer of "private label credit cards.
Any one of these companies (Chevron; Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.) that uses GE for their retail cards has nothing to do with collecting mony from the customer. They have already received their money from GE Money bank 30 days after you used your card.

"The problem for GE Money Banks claim was that I mailed the payment to them via certified mail and it only took 2 days to arrive. Therefore, GE Money bank claims that I was one day late and charged me a $29 late fee despite paying the account in full and on time."
- So what was the due date?
When did you send it?
When does it show they received it?
When was it posted?
In this case specifics is very important, so please don't use terms such as "on or about". As that is really just fluff and does not add anything.
