First of all let me start off by saying this organization is "awesome" for the services they provide for the children who are abused and neglected. That's what attracted me to this company wanting to help these children, to make a difference in their lives. I had no regrets working for this organization and gained hands on experience making it easy to for me to obtain my Master's. =)
The time spent working for this organization, I realized the high turn over rate in employees were just horrendous! No stability in the children's live what so ever!
As new program managers came on board, changes occurred for the worse. A little before resigning, there was a young program manager who stirred things up down in Orange County. When I mean stir things up, I mean very unprofessional and shady. This program manager hired family members and their friends. You're probably saying hey, that's nepotism!
Well I thought the same and consulted with a lawyer before filing a formal complaint. The lawyer did some research and informed me that this organization is allowing it. I was pretty shocked myself to tell you the truth. Let me point out that the so-called friend the program manger hired became a supervisor within 6 months of being hired and was terminated for striking a child.
There are wonderful ladies called the Chapter Ladies. They do fundraising such as golf tournaments, fashion shows, bake sales, etc. to raise money for this organization. They donate toys, Target gift cards, movies tickets, basketball tickets, etc. Christmas time, there's plethora of goodies for the children. In the past, they were evenly distributed to the kids and if any were left over, they were stored away for the new child.
Sadly to say, staff members have witnessed the program manager and friends taking home donated items. What's disturbing is a child who was very unhappy about his placement was bribed into speaking highly of the organization to auditors and licensing. In return, he was able to stay up past his bedtime and eat ice cream. Now tell me what you think of this! The program manager (female) and one of the supervisors (male) vacationed together on an island for 2 weeks! Oh, there's more!
Any ex-employees want to share your experiences? There are too many incidents and occurrences at the Orange County Childhelp which requires investigation. I know for a fact the counselors are in fear of retaliation and/or losing their jobs for speaking up. Those that did speak up are no longer working for the organization. Why? Retaliation, ridiculous schedule changes, write-ups, false allegations, etc. Oh trust me, I was one of them!!!
What's being done about this? NOT A d**n THING! Few counselors made numerous attempts going through chain of commands and have been unsuccessful. Few even went over management's head to cooperate. (I think that was a waste of time.)
So sad.. I would hate for the Orange County Childhelp to close down due to unprofessional people running this place!
All I have to say for the counselors still working there is to speak up, jot dates, times of any suspicious observations and whom you spoke to etc. etc. in the little note pad. Make copies of everything you receive and submit (i.e. incident reports, time cards, supervisory notes, etc.) and file them somewhere safe.
TRUST me! This organization is so unorganized and shady they lose paperwork left and right! They LOST a copy of my driver's license, my training hours and my college transcripts! LASTLY, make sure to have a witness at all times (i.e. co-worker and not the kids please!!!!) My little note pad help me when making filing a formal complaint....X

I have not worked for this company too long but something is not right about Omeka who is managing the company! Everything said by "Keep it Real" is true I couldn't have said it better. I spoke up and ended up on management's "shitlist". "Keep it Real" metioned "retaliation".. that's what happened to me. My schedule changed from am/swing/ntcare/oncall and my days off were split. It didn't make sense. I was written up, put on probation, and basically was threatened of my job. "Keep it Real" mentioned stealing? Yes I saw it happen couple of times. I worked a pm shift and received donations of gift cards for the staff and children. They cards were given to supervisors. Staff did not get them. Children did not get them either. What happened to them? I thought family members can not work together on the same floor? The boys location has family members of Omeka working which made it a very uncomfortable working environment for the other workers. I also seen them roughly handle the children physically and mentally. When something was said, I was quick to be blamed for something else. I am tired of this and currently looking for another job. I will miss the children and hate to see them in care of these people who are not there for the right reasons. I'm so sad by this. I hope something gets done soon.
