This company is a rip off. The other reviewer wrote a very detailed report and I basically had the same experience. For $79 he removed the logs and vacuumed the ashes out the fireplace. Never got on the roof to inspect or clean the chimney. The first night I made a fire, smoke was coming into thr room. Yes, the damper was open. The owner asked me what I expected for $79. I expected what he advertised "complete chimney cleaning and inspection". He was very defensive. He probably gets these calls frequently. i asked for a refund and he said there was no way that was happening. The $79 is the least of my concerns. It took a long time to remove the smoke from my house. This is also very dangerous and negligent. I just purchased this home and had no idea od the history of this fireplace and chimney. If there is a large amount of build up or other problem, it could start a fire. Don't get sucked in by this low price. Call a professional.

Please reread my report!

If you will reread my report, you will see that he did not actually clean the chimney. It is not necessarily the chimney sweep's fault. However, it is the company's fault for advertising a service (in detail) for a specified price and then not performing the service. It is certainly not my fault as the consumer (as you seem to imply). They even have an ad on Groupon
- $79 for a level-one chimney cleaning and inspection ($199 value)
- $139 for a level-one chimney cleaning and inspection for a two-chimney home ($299 value)
During the visit, technicians sweep chimneys in one- or two-chimney homes with manual rotary brushes and extendable rods, ridding flues of built-up ash and creosote along the way.
I was not necessarily "trying to conserve monies" as you state. Of course, I don't want to waste money, but I wanted the service to be provided that I paid for. I did not try to get a cut rate price. I simply ordered the service that was advertised. The problem is that their advertising is false. There are numerous reviews on many sites by other customers with the same comments. I have never had a chimney inspected, so I don't have any idea how much it would cost.
I just purchased this home a few weeks prior to having the service performed. My home inspector suggested I get a chimney inspection because I have an insert and he could not properly inspect it.
When I called to make the appointment, I went into much detail with the owner about the condition of the fireplace. I told him I have an insert and a chimney cap. I also told him that there was a great deal of soot/creosote covering the inside of the firebox and that the doors were so black I could not see through them. I told him I was concerned about making a fire because of the condition.
That would have been the time to tell me that there would be an extra charge for pulling the insert, etc. Nothing was said.
The chimney sweep arrived in an unmarked vehicle (about 2 hours late). He gave me a business card that was different from the company I had called. When I opened the door, I asked if he wanted to start outside or inside. He said everything would be done from the inside. I don't know how you can inspect the chimney cap, bricks, etc. from inside. As soon as he walked in and before he looked at anything, he said "This is not going to be $79". He started giving me all kinds of add on prices.
He also complained about the last job taking longer and how he was rushing to get to his appointments. He told me that because I had an insert and a chimney cap, it really wasn't necessary to pull the insert and do an inspection. At the very least, he should have cleaned my chimney "with manual rotary brushes and extendable rods" as adverted on the internet. All he did was remove the logs and vacuum ashes out of my fireplace.
I could not write him a check because he advised me after he was finished that they do not accept checks. He wanted me to give him a credit card number. I certainly was not giving my card number to this guy who did not even have a business card from the right company. Fortunately I had cash on hand. He gave me a handwritten, generac receipt with "Proposal" at the top such as you can get from any office supply store.
How did I approach the "level of satisfaction"? I am a 61 year old woman who lives alone in a rural area standing in my living room with a "chimney sweep" in an unmarked vehicle with no proper identification. I did what any sensible person would do. I paid him.
I find it really odd that someone would write a rebuttal like yours and actually blame the consumer. Did I check them out. No. I moved from another state and at the time, I was trying to get a bed and sofa delivered since I had no furniture. Also, the thermostat on my heat pump was malfunctioning, so I had no heat. I was a little bit busy. Is it my fault for not doing my "due diligence" and checking them out first? Yes. However, it still doesn't make what they do right and I am simply trying to alert other consumers. If you can't say someone helpful or constructive, you probably shouldn't comment on posts. Are you really a consumer or part of this scam? Rhetorical question. Please don't respond.

As a consumer I can see how you wanted to conserve monies and get the task attended to properly. Usually a business worker will "test" the product that has been repaired to assure the consumer of its functionality. Did this not transpire? Sounds to me that the chimney sweep did not attempt to verify that the operation of the chimney was safe after cleaning. How did you approach this "level of satisfaction" before writing out a check? Both sides are equally accountable for conveying what is expected and what can be realistically accomplished. My chimney sweep gent was able to surmise some issues in the structure and conveyed it on his report after cleaning it. It helped to build a positive rapport for getting safety matters attended to. Sorry that this gent who provided a service did not meet the standards of that industry. If you recently purchased this home- check what warranty may be active. At the time of home inspection for purchasing, this should have been covered. Somehow this is being gleened as the chimeny sweeps fault. Check to see if he is licensed.
