Hello, This is a note from my cousin, Damon Edwards, who is desperately seeking legal help to save his children.   Please respond to him, if you can help.  Thank you.  Monique Gallaway ======================  My name is Damon Edwards and I had my 4 children taken away by DHS 2.5 years ago and they are in the process of terminating my rights to my children.  As an African American male with bi-racial children in Hugo, Oklahoma, I am being treated unfairly and unjust by the city of Hugo and DHS. 

I hope you can help me with legal representation or guide me to someone who can help me.  I do not have any family or outside support to rally on my behalf in this city. Any support you can provide will be helpful.    My next court date is Thursday, March 29th.  The hearing is to terminate my rights to my kids.  I do not want this to happen.  I love my children.  In April 2010, my children were taken away from our home.  Earlier in the day, my girlfriend and I had a dispute and a neighbor called the police.

There were no arrests or complaints filed, but DHS was called and our children were taken away.  In court they communicated the children were taken due to domestic violence and we would have to follow rules given by the court to obtain physical custody of the children again.  We denied having domestic violence issues, but went along with the rules given by the court. This included anger management classes, random drug test, supervised visitation, random home visits, and paying child support.

I have completed and passed all requests of the court, but I am not able to get my children back yet.   In the meantime, we were given a public defender, who informed us that the judge would not believe anything we would say and to do whatever DHS want us to do or say. We asked for another attorney and we were granted a new one.  The new attorney has since quit and now I was given the original attorney again.  This does not seem fair.  There is no one really looking out for my best interest as it relates to obtaining my children.  

Just recently the DHS caseworker has cut off our weekly supervised visitation because they say our rights will probably be terminated and they want to help the kids transition better into their new life.  This does not seem fair or legal, since the court date is not until March 29th and no final decision has been made.    As you can hear, I just need someone to help me understand my rights.   I do not have any money to afford an attorney.  I have maintained employment throughout this ordeal, but I do not have much money. 

They are enforcing child support payments from me so my income is even less. The remaining income is being used to stay current on the rent and electricity and water.  My phone will be cut off on Friday, March 9th, so please contact me before then at (((phone number redacted))).
