I went to Chomps for the first time in Oct 08' with my friends. Not only was it overly expensive but the food was not good! At the end of the evening we split the bill three ways and when signing my check it was for a total of $35.
Two days later, when checking my online banking account I noticied I was charged a total of $70!!!!
They do not personally take phone calls, so I left a polite voicemail for 6-7 days straight (VM states they will get back to you within 24 hours), only to Never hear from Anyone. I then proceeded to email Chomp headquarters regarding the lack of Customer service and the amount I had been over charged. Once again, I never heard back from anyone.
Please pass on this information and I suggest keeping your receipt if you decide to eat here.

Probably not a RipOff...

Since this was in October did the bill ever correct itself?
FYI:(If it was corrected probably what happened in your case)
When you go to a resturant and pay by Debit/Credit the Resturant will place a hold on your card to account for any possible tip. Just about every resturant does this, but the amount they hold depends on the resturant. Generally you can expect it to be anywhere from 20%-30% of the total bill. If you split the bill they may have based it on the entire party.
Credit Cards and Debit Cards are not the same in how pre-authorizations are done. For a credit card you really don't see this hold, but only the actual charge submited after it is posted. However, if you used a Debit Card you do see this hold because the way a Debit Card is processed it removes the amount from your available balance. Generally in about 1-2 business days the resturant will post the real charge and remove the hold amount. However, due to possible issues with them or their credit card processor it can take several business days.
This same authorization is done at other businesses such as Rental Cars, Hotels, and Gas Stations where you pay at the pump. So if you use your Debit Card at any of these places you need to make sure you have enough to account for the Hold amount that may be taken out. Because right now several banks will charge you an OD fee on the Hold even though the real charge was less.
I am not defending if they never called you back, or what you felt on the food. This was just to explain why it could be seen as a RipOff, but is more of an issue on how Debit Cards work.
