My husband is a long haul truck driver. He was supposedly in the wrong lane. Saw no postings to that effect until he was leaving california 60 miles down the road after he had recieved the ticket. Chp is havin sweeps to look for bad truck drivers. My husband is not one. All the officer would have to do was to cb him and tell him to move to another lane. We were forced to pay the $133.00 ticket or he would have lost his drivers licence.

After the officer got done with my husband he pulled over another truck driver. He was just out writting tickets for the hell of it. The only way we can get our money back is to have a written declaration of trial. We have to fillout the papers and send them back to California. Chp keeps it up all truckers will 86 Califoria. Then who is in trouble. I have reported it to Truckers News and all of their affialites. We want our money back. We are owner operators and need our money back.

Absolutely right..CA/CHP abuses truckers..It's easy money!

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 05, 2006

I was also an OTR trucker. I am a safe and experienced driver with over 1.5 million logged safe miles OTR. I have a clean CDL.

My ONLY problems with Cops/DOT were in CA and OH. The absolute two worst states for truckers. I went all the way and beat the complaint in OH, and never actually got the ticket either time in CA but was detained and put out of service several times for absolutely nothing other than these fools don't know whats going on.

When I became an owner operator I refused loads to CA except for my premium paying existing customers who I had to service. However, on the broker load, etc..It was a MINIMUM of a $500 surcharge to go to CA, and that was if I had a guaranteed load coming out. Otherwise the surcharge was $1000.

I don't need CA loads or CA cops. It's just not worth it. Every trip to CA in some way costs a driver alot of money. Overpriced fuel and services, lack of truckstops, harrassment, etc.

Boycott CA. I would love to see it although unrealistic with all of the morons driving and owning trucks these days. It has turned into a very sorry industry filled with those who beg to haul cheap freight for idiots. If we could get rid of that mentality "that load pays for my fuel.." we could all make money. Is the goal in owning a truck only to pay for your fuel or to make money?

These are the same guys who cannot figure out to stay out of CA!

I got one for being courteous too

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 05, 2006

I was empty, going down the "Grapevine", and stupidly moved from the right lane to the middle. This was to allow the trucks trying to merge in, to be able to do so.

CHP gave me a ticket. It cost about $140. He catually told me to stop being "courteous". Great. He should be teaching driving school.

As an aside, this is the moving violation PrePaidLegal told me they didn't cover. This, and any other issues that one might ever have.

THE CHP

AUTHOR: James - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, September 04, 2006

The CHP (a lot of them) are the biggest bunch of liars on the earth. NO QUOTAS MY A**! Ya sure, there are no so called quotas, but if you come back to the station at the end of the shift with no miles on your unit and no cites, you are looked at as not doing your job, so whoever that was that wrote that "there are no quotas sh*t" can kiss my a**.

And that dumb son of a b*tch that said about truckers: "Go ahead and boycot the peoples republic of California, there will be others to take your place" Dont you realize what you said? That would cause every dumba** who has no idea on how to drive a truck to start driving and THAT would be dangerous.

I am not a truck driver and I never have been. I don't even know any but I have seen the things that they do because of where I worked and some of these guys and gals have enough know how to back a 53 foot trailer PERFECTLY between two other trailers with very limited room in the front and do it perfect on the first time? Now THATS experience.

And that a**hole that said that trucks are dangerous - let me tell YOU something. Every trucker I have ever talked to, when asked about a traffic collision, said that they would rather run their truck into a ditch than to hit your dumb a**. Now that's some motherf*ckin' class.

F*CK the CHP. They lie and f*ck up lives. That's why they're dying out on the streets all the time. people are running into them left and right - go look at the chp website. people hit those f*ckers on purpose because they are a**holes! Go to the news, go to other police department websites. see how many people ran into cops on purpose. not many.

Brent, you are a sheep

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Monday, March 07, 2005

Brent you are either a cop or a sheep. This whole thing started because some out of state trucker was in the wrong lane and some dogooder C.H.P. officer had to give him a ticket instead of informing him of our laws and letting him go. But since we are not doing any favors between cops and truckers and it is what it is. Maybe we shouldnt change lanes when we see them on the side of the road with a motorist, or let them get by when its a 2 lane road, or call them sir when we address them. Truckers do all of these things and we would like the same respect. We too want the bad drivers out of here, but we dont want good drivers being pissed of at the cops. Most of the trucking laws are out dated and useless. I and 1000s of other truckers drive more than the law permits and we speed and we lie at the scales about everything and we have spotless driving records. Go figure.

Any idiot can get himself elected and start making up laws. That doesn't mean the laws they make are right.

AUTHOR: Paul - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 06, 2005

What do you need to get elected in this country? Certainly not brains. That's for sure. There's nobody who can dispute that. Look at some of the jackasses we got running things!

And, you absolutely don't need morals or the sense to know the difference between right and wrong. I think everyone can see that too. Just look at our presidents. Cheating. Lying. Stealing. Basically, they do whatever the hell they feel like. Big children. Big, spoiled children. That's who runs this country.

So what do you need? One thing. Money. And, lots of it.

How do you get that money? Easy! Promise to make laws for people with the money. Politicians make crazy laws. And, they get paid money. They use that money to get reelected. Not so hard to understand, is it?

So don't talk to me about how everyone just needs to obey the law and everything will be just fine. That only makes you look like a complete jackass. It shows me you're too stupid to see how these laws were made in the first place.

Real laws are common sense. I don't need laws to tell me not to go out and rob or rape. I know those things aren't right. That's why I don't do them.

On the other hand, I know how traffic works. On a limited access highway, like a freeway, there are rules that you need to follow to prevent accidents.

One big rule is that everybody needs to drive the same speed. It's the passing and changing lanes that cause more risk. The way to drive is very simple. Pace the car in front of you. Don't be passing. Don't be changing lanes.

And, maintain a safe distance behind the car in front. Don't be riding right on their bumper. You need to allow room to react and stop if the car in front jams on his brakes for some reason.

As far as lanes go, you stay closer to the right if you are only going a short distance. The far right lane should be for cars entering and exiting. It should stay clear of traffic, when possible. You get on and get up to speed. Then, you move left into the main traffic flow. When you're ready to exit, you get into the right lane.

Traffic that does not intend to exit needs to stay to the far left. If you're going 50 miles, you don't need to be riding in the lanes near the exits. Stay the hell out. Stay left.

That's how traffic should work. Instead, trucks can't do any of that.

Trucks are forced to stay in the lane reserved for entry and exit. People coming on look over and see a big truck. They hesitate. They don't know what to do. They don't want to be in back of a big truck. So, they race to the end of the entrance ramp in an effort to get in front. Sometimes, they barely make it.

Let me explain something. Being right in front of a semi is the worst place you can be. I call it the death zone. Make one mistake, and you'll get smashed flat. If you pull in front of a moving truck, you better be going as fast or faster. The truck can't stop in time to save you.

If you're pulling into moving traffic and you see a truck, the best thing to do is pull in behind it. You can always speed up and change lanes once you're on the highway. Don't risk having a big truck right on your tail. It's always safer to be behind the truck, never directly in front.

The reason trucks are in that lane is because a jackass made a law. The dumb a*s who made the law can't even spell truck. What does he know about traffic flow? Little or nothing!

Yet, these are the people who determine how the rest of us should live! Why don't we just go down to the insane asylums and let those people make some laws? Hell, you couldn't get much worse, could you?

Here's the part I really love. Some loser straps on a badge and a gun. He's read the big book with all the laws in it. Now, he goes out and starts forcing people to follow them.

I have to give most cops credit where it's due. Most of them know idiots make our laws. They enforce only the ones that make sense. They ignore the rest.

But, every once in a while, you run into a jackass. This idiot doesn't understand traffic any better than the nut cases who wrote the laws. Yet, here he is. Dirty harry with a badge and a gun. Can't think for himself. Doesn't know the difference between right and wrong. All he knows is what's in the law books. That's how he rules the citizens he comes in contact with.

So, don't sit back and tell me about your laws and your rules. They mean nothing to me. Anybody who follows the laws exactly as they are written is a complete idiot.

Instead, think for yourself. How does traffic work best? Do what makes sense. Don't follow some stupid law written by a jackass who can't even spell truck. What the hell does he know? He won't protect the person you run down because they pull out in front of your moving truck.

I absolutely love the dumbass who tells me cops don't get any of the citation money. What a f**king moron! The lawmakers put him to work out stealing from the citizens of this country, and he don't get one dime of the money he brings in!

That shows me two things. One, he can't think for himself, or else he wouldn't be out enforcing some of the ridiculous things they put in the law books. And, two, he's a complete jackass. If you are the one out risking your a*s writing the citations, you should at least get a share of the money collected. Don't you think?

Any jackass can make a law. I think we all see that. Most of the times, laws come from some industry who pays the politician to make that law. Only a complete idiot would believe that laws are made by the people, for the people.

It's been well over 100 years since we have had any form of government of the people and by the people. Today's leaders are crooks and cheats who will gladly get in bed with any industry that needs a favor done.

Politician whores. That's who runs out world. That's who makes our laws.

You know, I'd really love to have some law-abiding jackass come here and tell me that we have a decent government of honest people. I'd carve the fool up like a thanksgiving turkey.

This is reality.

Yes, I understand that cops have a law book to follow. As a trucker, I have to be aware of what laws pertain to me so that I don't get one ticket after another.

But, make no mistake Mr Chp, the only reason I'm in the right lane is because you're sitting there watching me. I have to ignore safety, and follow your stupid rule book. Otherwise, you'll steal my money.

But, when the inevitable happens, and some innocent motorist is killed or maimed for life because my truck was keeping them from entering the road safely, then their death is on your hands. You're the one who forced me to be there. If it wasn't for you, the accident wouldn't have happened.

Now, jackass, take you're rule book out and show it to the children who no longer have a father. Or, explain to a new father that his wife and family were killed when they pulled in front of a truck.

Make it your responsibility to notify families when someone is killed. See how far your bullshit law books go towards making some sense out of what happened!

Make no mistake about it. Truck driver know they are piloting a dangerous vehicle. They don't want to get themselves killed. And, they certainly don't want to kill someone else. Want proof of that? There are truckers who deliberately ran off the road to avoid someone in a car. The truck driver usually dies. He, or she, makes a split-second decision to give up their life so that someone else could go on with theirs.

That happens more than many people realize.

Truck driver have a very difficult job to do. Anyone who doesn't work in the industry has no idea of the problems they face everyday. But through it all, the vast majority of the drivers are concerned with keeping their truck from hurting someone else.

So, when you see a truck and a cop out on the highway, remember this. The trucker is the one who will try to keep from hitting you. The trucker may even be willing to die to avoid doing that.

The cop, on the other hand, is the one who doesn't give a d**n about you or the truck. All he knows is what is in his big book of laws. The court system has him out there stealing money for them. That's his reality.

Once you see what these people really do, you won't fall for their protect and serve nonsense any longer.

Good laws rarely need to be enforced. People understand right and wrong. They don't need some crook out stealing their money to show them the way.

Yes, I agree, we need laws. Good laws that make sense, and protect others from harm. It's the bad laws that we can all do without.

And, we need law enforcement that knows the difference between the two. The politicians will never do the right thing. That's how they got to be lawmakers in the first place. So, it's up to law enforcement to make some sense out of the rules. After all, if you have the right to strap on a gun, you d**n well better have some sense to go along with it. Or, is that too much to ask for?

CHP enforce laws. California has more vehicles then any other state and they have to regulate them closely or there will be chaos

AUTHOR: Brent - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 06, 2005

What do people expect the CHP to do? They don't have CBs in their cars and tax payers don't want to buy them. Some people complain about getting arrested for driving drunk when they think the officer should just drive them home. If you are a "professional" truck driver it is your responsibility to know the laws. No one wants to accept responsibility for what they do any more.

California has more vehicles then any other state and they have to regulate them closely or there will be chaos. Also, remember that the CHP does not get any of the fine money...NONE of it. Quotas are illegal in California. What you are complaining about is that the officers are enforcing the laws?

We are a nation of laws and the legislature wrote some of the laws because commercial drivers have killed too many people and have congested too many roads. If you obey the laws then you won't have to worry about paying fines.

Personally I am glad that the officers are strict with the big trucks who all too often drive too fast, follow too closely, use the wrong lanes, damage the roads, and create traffic problems. As for the idea of boycotting the state; go ahead and try. There are thousands of people who are willing to drive here and thousands more ready to take your job if you don't want it. No one, including me, likes to get tickets but if you were doing what they cited you for be a grown-up and pay the fine without complaining.

California is bad for trucks. I wouldn't blame anyone who refused to deliver here.

AUTHOR: Paul - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 09, 2005

As an ex-trucker who lives here in this miserable state, I side with the other drivers. Yes, there are signs that warn trucks to stay in the right hand lane. But, that is the most dangerous and ridiculous thing I've seen in a while.

Think about this. I'm heading south on Interstate 5, the main north-south corridor through Los Angeles. I'm heading all the way down to the Mexican border to pick up a load of electronics that were manufactured in Mexico. I have no intention of getting off at any exit in Los Angeles.

So, why am I forced to stay in the right hand lane? Automobiles use that lane to enter the freeway. They also use it to leave the freeway. Why should they be forced to deal with a big truck in the lane when they need to exit? Big trucks are dangerous for cars. Pull in front of a big truck that is going at freeway speed. It couldn't possibly stop in time to avoid hitting you.

Why are California motorists forced to deal with the trucks every time they want to enter or exit? Because the idiot lawmakers say so! They have no idea how trucks work. Maybe no idea how traffic works. Yet, they get to decide what's best.

We got idiots running the country. We really do!

The best place for a truck that is not stopping in the city is the far left lane. The driver should be able to pace the traffic ahead of them. Of course, truck drivers can't do that either. Trucks are restricted to 55 here. Expensive tickets start at 58 miles an hour.

What I explained here isn't rocket science. Even a complete idiot can see these things. Yet, somehow the nonsense goes on. What else is left? Money! There are a lot of trucks here. And, there is a lot of money to be stolen from the drivers. That's the only reason this goes on.

Everybody knows it's not safe to walk down a deserted street late at night. It's also not safe for a trucker to drive down a California highway anytime, night or day. In both cases, there are crooks with guns waiting to steal your money.

As long as drivers put up with it, this will continue. Next time, tell your dispatcher I'm not going to California unless I get $250 to cover the money they steal from you.

It's the same thing with idling. Drivers are forced to sleep in the cold or desert heat without any climate control. You can idle for 5 minutes or less. Then, the truck must be turned off. What if someone told you that you can run your home furnace for 5 minutes, and that's it? Who would live like that?

Drivers have a tough life. No doubt about it. That's exactly why I don't drive anymore.

The Soviet Republic of California

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 08, 2005

I live in this state and I am an owner operator here and I feel like the C.H.P. are a bunch of crooks out robbing truckers. For the most part truckers are not out looking for trouble or trying to break the law. Some truckers dont remember the more stupid laws here when they are traveling from state to state.

I have been caught in Arizona for something that was legal here in California and the officer understood and sent me on my way with a reminder, not a ticket.

California is short on money and truckers are going to pay the debt. Lets just have the C.H.P slogan say the truth "To Serve And Collect".

And all of you cops out there dont give us the its for our safety speech untill you tell us how many fellow officers you have let go without so much as a warning, thus proving that there is honor among thieves.

Long-haul trucker responds again.

AUTHOR: Jack - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 27, 2004

The laws in california regarding lane usage and
truck speed limits shouldnt even exist in the first place, let alone be enforced. They are
dangerous, unnecessary, and very ridiculous. I am never going into ca. again because of it. Peace officers,DOT, and other law enforcement dont have a clue as to what its like to drive a truck cross-country for a living. If they did,we woudnt have to put up with or get around these
so-called laws. Hopefully it will get better in the coming years and Ca. wont need to be using trucks as a revenue source, but until that happens, my truck will NEVER cross into CALIFORNICATE.

how much tolerance

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 03, 2004

For the other two posters. How much should the law let go?
5 inches over? Only 1 lane off?

The law is the law.
If you are going to lose you license over one ticket then you have had many before.

I am a former peace officer. Either you enforce the law or you don't.

For the first poster, the laws are very clear in california about lane usuage on the freeways, you need to learn them.

Long-haul trucker responds

AUTHOR: Jack - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 02, 2004

I am also a long-haul trucker whose had problems
in that joke of a state called california. I was
detained at the truckee scales for being ONLY 10
inches over the 40inches over bridge!!! Its getting very ridiculous. Why dont we all stand
together and 86 california for good?Whats stopping everybody? Only drivers can decide to do
it. Trucking companies are making way too much
money to boycott certain states, but they wont have a choice if every driver stands up and refuses to go into Ca. and a few other states that have split speed laws and lane restrictions.

Baggage

POSTED: Wednesday, March 17, 2004

Most people who have brushes with the law do not like them no matter what. Law enforcement officers are not baby sitters...they do not need to cb people. How do you know your hubby was pulled over for being in the wrong lane and not for speeding?...Were you there?....Oh and just by your statement of harassment and misconduct I have a strong feeling that your hubby and even yourself may have more citations than what you are leading us to believe. Oh and by the way the other trucker you mentioned...how do you or your hubby know what he was pulled over for?
