I purchased a 2 year extended warranty for my 2005 Nissan Altima (from the used car lot) for an additional $2995.00.  I have Had the car 1 year and  put 30,000 miles on it; the clutch plate (which is part of the transmission) has gone out ($800.00 for parts and labor-got a quote from my trusted local mechanic) The warranty lists any transmission parts are covered but when I brought the car to Chris Myers Service Dept they said it would not be covered because the clutch is a wearable part; (isnt the entire car wearable)  but in the warranty paperwork it clearly states that any part of the transmission would be covered.  if it was the clutch itself I would understand that it is wearable but being a part that is attached to the transmission I really feel it should be something covered under the warranty.  I will NEVER purchase another new or used car from Chris Myers.  They DO NOT HONOR their extended warranties and it is a way for them to get more money out of you.  I would have NEVER purchased the warranty if I knew then what I know now.  I hope anyone that is planning on purchasing a Nissan or Used vehicle is very aware of what this dealership does.

response from chris myers nissan mgmt

AUTHOR: Andre LeMaitre - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, February 10, 2011

I am a sales manager at Chris Myers Automall/Chris Myers Nissan and am writing in response to this customer complaint regarding extended service contract coverage.

First, I would like to offer my sympathy for your frustration regarding the mechanical difficulties you have encountered.  It is always unfortunate when machinery lets us down and we are left with no other option than to pay for repairs.

Second, I would like to comment on the nature and validity of your complaint:

1.) The extended service contract clearly states that "wearable items" i.e. clutch components, tires, brake pads, filters, etc. are not covered. These vehicle components are known to wear out at varying rates depending on the nature in which the vehicle is driven and therefore manufacturer's warranties and used vehicle service contracts make exclusions against them that are stated in the text of the contract that is signed by the consumer.  Extended service contracts are designed to protect consumers against mechanical failures that incur repair costs outside of the normal wear and tear that takes place during a vehicle's service life.  On most late model vehicles a clutch will typically last for 100-200k miles, but it is largely dependant on the manner in which they are driven.

2.) Your comment that "They DO NOT HONOR their extended warranties and it is a way for them to get more money out of you", is inaccurate.  We are an automobile dealership, not an insurance company and we do not underwrite policies - we sell policies that provide coverage underwritten by insurance companies, just like your local agent sells you car insurance underwritten by an insurance company.

3.)  We provide all customers with an opportunity to review all documents and ask questions before signing and encourage them to do so.  It is unfortunate that a misinterpretation of the coverage you purchased resulted in this negative portrayal of our dealership on the internet.

4.) It is also unfortunate that this website does not provide a forum for any of the consumers who have been protected from costly out of pocket repairs because they were covered by extended service contracts.

5.)  We are a reputable dealership and longstanding fixture in the community.  Chris Myers has been retailing automobiles in Daphne, AL since the early 1980s and anyone who cares to do so can research countless testimonials and positive reviews from satisfied customers.

Sincerely,
Andre LeMaitre
Chris Myers Nissan/Chris Myers Automall

*YOU CAN GO INTO THE DEALERSHIP RIGHT NOW AND CANCEL THE REMAINING PORTION OF THE WARRANTY AND RECEIVE A REFUND FOR.....

AUTHOR: Karl - (USA)

it.

Simply go into the dealership and meet with the finance manager and have him or her get on the phone with the warranty company and cancel it NOW! Make sure that you speak with the person on the other end of the phone, at the warranty company, to be certain it is cancelled and have them e-mail you a confirmation.

Also be sure that the refund check for the remaining portion of the warranty is mailed to YOU, not the dealership. (If the warranty company sends the refund check to the dealership, they could deposit it into their account and you might never find out about it.)

If they don't help you in this matter, contact ALL of you Local T.V. stations and get in touch with their Investigative Reporters and let them know about it ASAP!

*DO NOT DELAY...........DO IT TODAY!!!

Most of these extended warranties are just like all of those "derivatives" & "credit default swaps" that DESTROYED our economy. THEY ARE WORTHLESS!!!

Good luck to you, and don't forget to visit the TOYOTA page of this site and read all of the Toyota Ripoff Reports. (I believe there's one similar to yours.)

Thank You

Wow is correct

Wow is correct in stating that seems high for an extended warranty. That being said I also have never seen a clutch plate being covered. Reason being is because many drivers keep their foot on the clutch which causes excess wear. Now I am not saying you did but simply stating why they are not covered.

Sorry but I think your anger should be at the salesman that sold you a $3000 extended warranty in the first place for 2 years. I hope at least it was a Nissan warranty. I bought an 01 Maxima with 73k miles and got a Nissan extended warranty for HALF that price. Wow!

Anyway I have been buying cars for many years and the clutch plate is NEVER covered by any extended warranty simply for this very reason. If you were concerned you should have asked before you signed the papers. I challenge you to dig up the papers they gave you/brochure and read it carefully as to what is covered. Most places state if its not stated as covered its NOT.
