Company Charges $125 flat labor charge for service calls.

I called the company b/c my AC was not working.

Technicians found a bad capacitor. (good)

Replaced it with one of the capacitors that they had in their truck, which was the wrong size (bad)

Charged me 223 dollars for the capacitor. I questioned the technician about the price of the part. He replied that "thats how much they cost". I took the bait.

I couple of days later i opened up my unit. copied the part number down of the part they replaced and googled it. Four sites advertised the same part from anywher between $16 and $52.

I emailed the company to see if there had been an error in the price of the part they replaced. I got no response from them so I assume from there, they don't want to deal with me anymore and that they are in the business of marking up their prices over 1000% to customers.

I also asked the tech when they told me the bad part was a capacitor how much it was going to cost to fix it, and he told me that it would cost just over $200. Not the same price that was on the invoice. That was $363.36. I'll never forget that. I feel abused which is why i'm posting this to save anyone contemplating calling this company to think twice.

Stay clear of this company - I do not recommend anyone use them for business.

GREAT SERVICE/CHUCK'S HEATING & AIR

AUTHOR: anonymous in-the-know - ()

POSTED: Thursday, October 24, 2013

Let me begin this report by stating that, due to a terrible experience with a black friend from high school who robbed me of over 4000 dollars i do not trust black people at all now. With that said, I will continue and finish this review.   My grandparents have called Chuck's 3 x's over the years and his service has been timely and impeccable. He is a church-going, God fearing black male so I myself know reports of rants and swearing are erroneous at best. My grandmother called Total Comfort heating & air hwy 42 clayton first. Total comfort told her the thermostat was bad, she needed a 1300 dollar part, and ultimately she should totally replace her unit. As an elderly woman on a fixed income, she states that she feels Total Comfort victimized her and tried to get money out of her that she does not have. Knowing what I know, after Total comfort left, i jumped online to look at prices of refurbished units like my g-mas(to give her some inuendo to process logically, because she was crying).  That night she called Chuck's Heating cleveland rd clayton.  Mr Chuck came out the next day, as promised. He immediately checked out air conditioning system. He found wires connected improperly, a bent silver thingy located inside the thermostat that he said can short out the whole system: I guess it would be labled a node. The supposed 1300 dollar Total Comfort part was not mentioned at all during Chuck's Heating and Cooling visit; my g-mother did not inform Chuck's that Total Comfort was on site the day before. My Grandmother now has heat and air due to honest, knowledgable, professional non-opportunistic & honest non-swearing, personable service performed by Mr Chuck, Mr Chuck'son, and one other helper. Chuck's also replaced a plumbing gate valve at normal and comparable price. Thank you Mr Chuck and family for being professional with competitive pricing.

I agree.

" I must not know enough about the business.  "

The majority of the comments in your post would indicate that you definitely do not know very much about the business.   Any business, for that matter.

Here a simple concept.  We all (even you) agree that you have buyers' remorse.   In the world of business, buyers remorse is the BUYER'S problem and no one else's.   The price was fine when you needed a repair on the spot, yet a ripoff when you started your after-the-fact parts shopping.   Much like someone who goes to the meat market to check prices after eating an expensive steak in a restaurant, your argument is a joke.  Much like your characterization of the first rebuttal post as "threatening".

  You've lost all credibility.

Yea I didn't think so? Your threatening comments mean nothing because you are attempting it by means of internet posts. But yes, buyers remorse for sure. Why else would I be posting this?

I must not know enough about the business. I thought 1000% markup on a part was high. Remember, I also paid for the service call ($125) that was to include the labor to diagnose the problem. I'm not saying the HVAC company shouldn't markup the part, just not at the 1000%, they charged me. If this is the norm, I think its wrong. I should have shopped around and the company should have told me the cost before they completed the repair.

buyers remorse. Ok, so this part on the internet was $18. Let me ask you...did you know you needed that exact part? no you didnt. did you have that part in your truck? no the tech did. do you think the company over the internet is going to come back to your house 6 months later if the part fails? no they won't.

again, sounds like buyers remorse. if you don't want to pay a premium for service calls again, i suggest you quit your job, go to school for 2 years, then work as a helper for 5 years, get your license and then charge $18 for the $18 part. yeah, i didn't think so.
