I received a letter on behalf of a friend of mine, who happens to be a Disabled Vietnam Veteran who is in a VA hospital. I am his power of attorney. The letter stated that he had won $250,000 and included a (seemingly legitimate) check for $4735. He was instructed to call a phone number to speak to the account manager. The letter was signed by Cindy Ashworthy.
I did some internet searching and found her name on this website as being a scam artist, and upon further investigation online I also found that the routing number on the check does not exist. I also learned that the phone number (416-832-7239) was a cellphone out of Ontario Canada.
I am thankful to everyone who has reported this prior to me, you helped me protect my beloved friend.
How can people be so utterly dispicable as to try to rob an American Veteran?
