i have a very old phone, no text or anything fancy, i have been placing short calls to my patients as i am a nurse, before i arrive to their homes. my phone was not hanging up when i would click it down, it continued to run and run, my bill has been 40.00 a month for the last 4 years, but then if you are 1 day late they shut you off to charge another 40.00 which comes to 80.00!! then my phone continuously drops calls continuously! but my daughters cricket phone has perfect reception! I called cingular to report the constant drop in calls but they would not let me out of that horrible contract! finally last month i got out of it, and due to my phone not properly disconnecting after hanging up to my biggest shock my bill was 1100 dollars, yes american dollars!
i can not believe a cell phone could cost that much a month! that is just absurd! i refuse to pay it, even if it ruins my perfect credit! i just refuse! since then i got a phone with that new company cricket, i have unlimited minutes! yes unlimited and messages, the works, and my bill will never be over 45.00 a month, 45.00 a month unlimited, and it has way better reception than cingular/Att! in the meantime cingular is still haunting me and many others! how dare some company charge for minutes! if my cable bill was charged minutes it would be a fortune!! shame on these minute chargers!

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds
Yes, "roaming" minutes are expensive with Cricket, but......

Robert: I just checked the calling plans for cricket, specifically Oceanside.
Some things you should know.
You DO NOT have ANY FREE ROAMING minutes on your plan! Be careful when you travel - the roaming charges can be murder!
Your 'unlimited' features will follow you ONLY to other 'unlimited' feature service areas. Check their website and you will see that the vast majority of the US is NOT covered by this -only select zip code areas are covered. Again, the roaming charges can kill you if you travel about.
Check this for yourself at mycricket.com.
Just be careful if you travel about. My wife's son had cricket and when he traveled 7 miles away, guess what? ROAMING CHARGES! He finally dropped cricket.
------------
In response to what Robert said, he's right. Cricket only has "unlimited" service pretty much within the "metro" area of Oceanside (which I see is a sub-urb of San Diego). Anyways, the good thing about Cricket is that there ARE plans which DO come with up to 200 "roaming minutes" per month. You are RIGHT that her specific plan does NOT come with any FREE roaming minutes. The good thing about Cricket is that you have to pay for "roaming" minutes up front.....they are NEVER billed to you. So, in short, here are the plans that may best fit those that tend to "roam" outside of the unlimited area more:
Cricket Nation 200
With the Cricket Nation 200 $60 plan, you can use your phone every day, anytime, and your monthly bill will always be predictable.
The Cricket Nation 200 $60.00 Plan includes:
* UNLIMITED: anytime minutes
* UNLIMITED: US long distance (excluding Alaska)
* UNLIMITED: coverage in all Cricket markets
* FREE text & picture messaging
* Voice mail, caller ID, call waiting & 3-way calling
* 200 nationwide roaming minutes per month
Here is also the "scoop" on the roaming bundles they have as well:
Nationwide Roaming Minutes
Talk all over the US and Canada with Nationwide Roaming Minutes. Roaming bundles are available in the following increments on select service plans:
* 30 minutes for $5 per month - that's less than $.17/minute
* 70 minutes for $10 per month - that's less than $.15/ minute
* 120 minutes for $15 per month - that's less than $.13/minute
In terms of cost per minute, look at these:
700 minutes/month, typical cellular plan = $59.99 (not including taxes)
$59.99 / 700 minutes = 8.57 cents/minute
500 minutes/month, typical cellular plan = $49.99 (not including taxes)
$49.99 / 500 minutes = 9.99 cents/minute
Also, most cellular plans charge $0.45 per minute for overage minutes above your monthly "allowed" minutes.
So, if you break it down like that, Cricket is not a bad deal. It's quite comparable to other wireless companies. It basically all depends on how you use your phone and where you travel to.....so find a phone that fits your NEEDS.
Also, if you have been with a cellular company for a long time, get a NEW phone at least every 2 years....don't stick with the phone that you've had for over 5 years then complain that it's no longer working correctly. Replace it....especially if they give you one for FREE if you renew your contract!!
I don't currently use Cricket because I live outside of the Cricket "unlimited" area, so it doesn't fit my needs. I also travel a lot with my family as well.
