I live in an area where wireless service is poor. I have tried several companies with less than good results (T-Mobile, ATT, etc.) and I called Cingular. I was told that according to their MAP, I was in a good signal strength area. I told them to send out a phone. This occured in November 2005. It didn't work any better than the other carriers so I sent it back within 3 days. The following month I received a bill for service. I called and informed them that I had returned the phone.

I received a notice that the "past due" account had been sent to a collection company for recovery in December 2006. I wrote a letter to the collection company attn. George Gustafson explaining the situation in Dec. 2006 and Mar. 2007. NO reply. Now I am receiving threatening phone calls and an entry on my credit report that I am past due.

The amount of the delinquency varies between $31 and $183. I went into the local Cingular Store on Mar. 2, 2007 and was informed that there was nothing that they could do and their suggestion was just ignore it. As far as they could determine, it was being treated as a contract cancellation.

I have contacted the FTC and am currently waiting for a reply from them, but the damage has already been done as far as the credit report is concerned.

I should have checked out the Rep-report first. With over 30 pages of complaints, I would think Uncle Sam should seriously consider pulling Cingular Wireless's ability to operate in this country.

Tracking number for return

AUTHOR: Amethyst - (U.S.A.)

As long as you can provide a tracking number for your returned phone then there is no problems. It could also be that you ordered the phones from a 3rd party and returned the phones to them but not cancel the cingular account.

Return instructions, even from 3rd party are in the package and it tells you to call cingular to cancel the service and you have send the phone back to the company you ordered the phones from.

Without tracking number there is no proove if the phones were retrurned to us. The warehouse scans the phones Serial numbers and can be searched that way. So that the same phone is returned and not a different phone with a different Serial number ( IMEI number )

Have the warehouse search by IMEI number to see if the phones have been returned, they should still be in the system even almost 2 years later.

I have been unable to communicate with Cingular or their trained monkey collection department. I would write them and they never replied, so I reported the problem to the Attorney General in Washington and to the Federal Trade Commission. I guess, they pay more attention to them because I received a call from Cingular saying that they are dropping all claims against me. Of course, I still have to wait for it to happen.
