My wife and I purchased a TV from Circuit City a year ago, choosing the wonderful financing program with Bank One credit cards. Anyway, in the first month after purchase, they changed their PO Box address (for payment) by one digit, and buried the notification in my monthly statement (after I had already saet up my online banking to send checks to the first PO Box).

So several months later when the old PO Box stopped forwarding our checks, we started noticing late fees. When we disputed them, customer service asked us to send bank statments. We sent them three different times, and asked for return correspondence (which we never received).

Apparently, they decided to reject our dispute, but neglected to tell us. SO while we were awaiting resolution, they continued to pile up more late fees, topped off with a monstrous $130 "other" fee (the "promotion" was no longer valid because of the late fees). On top of that, my once perfect credit has been badly damaged. And when I spoke to a cutomer service MANAGER, I was told "too bad, you should have read your statement and changed your online banking."

I asked them why they didn't tell me they had rejected my dispute months prior and they said they, well, they updated it in their system (I was supposed to know that how?) and that I should have paid the charges first while the dispute was going on. How does that make sense? When someone says you owe them money without fully explaiing why, do you just give it to them and ask later?

I'm reasonable enough to admit that it's my responsibility to read my billing statements thoroughly. However, for someone with an impeccable credit history, you'd think Bank One would be a bit more reasonable about honest mistakes like this. On top of that, I have another card with them that I've been using for years.

When I told them that they would be losing all of my business, they wouldn't listen to one single bit of reason. What a bunch of weasels. Learn my lesson and DON'T EVER DO BUSINESS WITH BANK ONE or CHASE or CIRCUIT CITY. And spread the word.
