We made a purchase at Circuit City with their special promotional one year no finance charges/no interest as long as minimum payments are made appx 9 months ago.

I am meticulous about our bills and never make late payments--nor have ever missed any payments. I sent our March payment a week early (as usual), so it had plenty of time to make it by the due date. The next month I receive a bill warning us not to ruin our credit and that they haven't received March's payment!

I knew there had to be some type of mistake, so I checked to see if the check had cleared. For whatever reason, Chase decided not to process the check I mailed them for 3 weeks AFTER they received it!

We called and e-mailed to bring this obvious mistake to their attention, telling them to check their postmark on the envelope to see that we indeed did have it postmarked at least a week prior to the due date. They said that didn't matter to them. We affirmed that we did NOT make a late payment, and that we request that the late fee and finance charges be reversed. They flat out refused.

We said that we have two other Visa cards in good standing with them, for several years and if they look at our record they can see that we have never missed or made a late payment. They didn't care.

We asked for a manager and told her that if they don't reverse these fradulent charges that we would never shop at Circuit City again. She didn't care. So we asked the account to be closed.

In complaining to my friend who works in the financial industry, she says that she herself got screwed by a Chase account and she hears several complaints per DAY about Chase and their rip off ways!

I see that because they know they won't be making any money on those with good credit (and we have EXCELLENT credit), that they hold your check so that it looks like you defaulted on your payment, therefore they can begin charging you back charges on your balance and basically make the "promotional offer" null and void!

I've read some other postings and heard from my friend that even if you try to pay your balance early that they nail you with some sort of pre-penalty fees! I feel trapped! HELP! I will never shop at Circuit City again--I think Circuit City needs to know what is happening with their customers, and I also plan to shut down my other two Chase accounts!

Thanks to others who have posted the issues with Chase--they must have their justice day eventually!

Myriad Problems with Chase

AUTHOR: Robin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 24, 2006

As a customer service associate at the Circuit City in Portage, Michigan, I see these problems all the time. I am among the many who wish Chase would get their act together. I cannot count how many times I have called Chase and spoken to rude associates, and I'm calling from the store for a customer. I actually had to call three times once to get someone who would even listen to what I had to say, and then my manager called back later to complain to Chase about how rude their associates were to me, and we're supposed to be affliates.

What confuses me is that the manager you spoke to at Circuit City seemed completely unconcerned. It is true that we have little control over how Chase handles their cards, and we have no authority whatsoever to make changes on the actual account, but we always try to make every effort to get the problems rectified, at least at my store.

If there is another Circuit City in your area, I would give them a call and explain the situation and see if they can do anything for you. Unfortunately, there is not much I can suggest in the way of a solution after that.

Our hands are tied in terms of Chase as much as yours, and so far there are no indications that we will be changing companies any time soon.

Chase...what a bunch of guys...

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

I called Chase every month on the day my bill was due each month and payed them over the phone. One time I called them on Saturday or Sunday (i don't remember which) and the following month I get a notice that my interest rate is now something like 29 percent and I'm like WTF. I call them and they said I had a late payment. It was only late because they didn't process it the day I called and then it was only 2 days late even if you count that. What about some kind of grace period? No? Fortunately it was no big deal for me. I only had a couple hundred bux left on my account and I just went ahead and payed it off to avoid the hassle. What a pain though.
