I bought a 40" Polaroid LCD television from Circuit City in August, along with the 3 year service warranty. Got it home, it was dead out of the box. Brought it back to get a new one, they didn't have any more of that model in stock, so I upgraded to the 42" model for an extra $200 (Even though they told me with the service plan it covers the next best model if the same model isn't available... but that's another story).
I got the new one home, and there was a REALLY loud buzzing noise while the TV was on. I called Polaroid, they sent me a part (Took 10 days), then they scheduled an authorized repair man to come install it for me (Another 2 weeks). After that, it worked fine for a couple of months.
Then on Friday December 14, the TV died. It won't turn on... nothing. I called Polaroid back, they sent me a part, which arrived on Monday December 17, and gave me a number to call to schedule my own repair man. I called, and the soonest they could get here is the end of January!
So I called Polaroid back and asked if there were any other authorized places I could try that might be able to get here quicker, and they said that's the only place they deal with (I live in Cincinnati, it's not like I'm in the boondocks and there's no place around that can fix a d**n TV).
So I tried Circuit City, since their extended warranty includes in-home service... but no, their service plan doesn't start until the manufacturer's warranty expires.
So now I have a 42" TV in my living room just collecting dust for 2 f***ing months until somebody has time to get here... a $150 service plan that doesn't cover anything... and Polaroid and Circuit City really couldn't care less.
I, for one, will be recommending everybody I know stay away from both Circuit City and Polaroid... it is absolutely ridiculous that I spent $1000 on a d**n TV, plus another $150 for the "better" service plan, and in the first 4 months it's had to be serviced twice, returned once, and will now be out of commission for the next 2 months

Anyone who buys a Polaroid tv is asking for trouble. Of course, the same goes for ANY off brand tv set. The best thing to do is to check the various electronics forums and web sites for info before purchasing. In fact, Circuit City has their own ratings forum for each product they sell. If you check out the customer reviews for the 40" Polaroid, you'll find that MANY people have had exactly the same problems you encountered - bad tv and no response from Polaroid.

Circuit City is fixing the TV, covered under warranty. Apparently, the person I talked to originally was uninformed of how the service agreements really work. Polaroid still doesn't give a rats a*s about anything though... other than now that Circuit City is fixing it, they will take no responsibility for anything.

Why didn't you go with a "name brand" like Sony or Panasonic? The latest Sony & Panasonic HD LCD sets look pretty darned good. We have a (now 2-yr-old) Vizio HD LCD and it has been a great performer, but I do not care for the picture quality I see on today's Vizio HD LCD sets. Of course, I am assuming the Sony, Panasonic, & Vizio sets I see today all have the same picture "feed".
