Circuit City Stores deceptive practices

Recently purchased laptop computer and 3yr contract with compuserve. Part of the 3yr contract with compuserve included a $400 rebate applied on a circuit city merchandise card.

When purchasing the computer and contract and told of the rebate at no time did they ever tell me the merchandise card was only good for ninety days (90). I have made three (3)purchases using that card and on each time they told me the existing balance remaining on the card but never told me that I had to use the remaining balance within a specified time.

On the 17 Nov I when to look at purchasing a new digital camera and some dvd's and planned to use the remaining balance against the purchase. When I got to the register I was told that the merchandise card had expired. That was the first time I was told it had an expiration date. I was told to speak to the store manager about getting the card extended.

When I spoke to the store manager I was given the phone number for circuit city's customer support. On Monday 19 Nov. I called customer support and spoke to Mr. Antonio Hawkin's I was told that the card did infact have an expiration date of ninety (90) days after issuance and since it was on the back of the card there was nothing he can do.

He apologized about the fact I was not told about the expiration date at time of sale and on the other purchase dates but there was nothing he could do about my compliant. I went to circuit city's online site and located another phone number for customer service.

When I phoned the other number I explained the situation and also told them what Mr. Hawkin's had said. I was told again that was nothing that could be done since the card had expired and corporate police was the card expired in ninety (90) weather I was told about the expiration date or not.

When I phoned compuserve customer service and told then they said that I should have been offered either the merchandise card or the usual $400 check rebate. They said their reimbersement to circuit city is not on a time restraint.

I am asking that the balance of the card $140.49 be reinstated.
