I purchased a Sony video camera from the Circuit City store in Auburn Hills Michigan for a friend in the British Virgin Islands. I paid for the product and received a box that was sealed with a sticker that said "10% re-stocking fee and 14-day return policy", it should also be noted that this also covers the original Sony box seal. And with a sealed box I took off on my trip. Two days later I gave my friend the box and he opened it to find the cables, charger and all the other materials in the box, minus the camera of course. I promptly called Circuit City and asked to speak to the manager and was put on the phone with Nick Rose. I explained to Nick that I have opened the package to find the camera missing and this is unacceptable. Nick assured me that there wouldn't be a problem correcting the issue and I can return what I have for a refund. Nick also said that "this has happened before in the past with Sony cameras" and that the other managers name is Ryan Patton.

After return from my BVI trip I returned to the store with my box, the receipt and all the notes from my conservations with Nick. I asked the first Circuit City employee if I may speak with Nick and was informed that he wasn't in, so I asked for Ryan. I explained the situation to Ryan and he went into the office to call someone. He came back 15 to 20 minutes later and explained that he had to call someone else on Monday to get an authorization and wasn't able to do anything for me that day. Ryan took my name and number and said he'd call the next day. I followed up by calling the store the next day myself and couldn't get a hold of Ryan. I called the 800 number from the website for customer service and explained the situation to a rep that eventfully called the store and got Ryan on the line as well. Ryan explained to me that he was calling Sony to get a replacement camera before he can think about processing a refund.

I find it absurd that a store can sell me a box without the merchandise in it and can't process my refund until they get another camera from Sony. They were very quick to take the money from my checking account when I used a debit card.
