RE: Complaint About Cox Communications and Station WSB AM 750 Radio - Atlanta, Ga
Dear Sirs:
The radio station WSB is a station in the Cox Communications Group, both in Atlanta. Said station airs a consumer show called "Clark Howard Show" and this show along with WSB/COX, maintains a web site message board which 'in theory' is available for listeners to make posts and exchange information and ideas.
I posted under the registered screen name of '5th Army' on their General Discussion message board (see attached posts) regarding the statements of Rep. John Murtha (D) who I disagreed with.
This post was changed by a 'moderator4', which is a Carrie Muller of Rocklin, Calif who as you can see from the attached post changed the flavor of the post entirely. I urged other readers to "Fax Rep John Murtha and tell him you think he is a traitor.", this was changed to"Fax Rep John Murtha and tell him what you think of his statements." Clearly unwarranted censorship!
I posted on the General Discussion thread again with the information updated and also posted the attached 3 page post on the 'ClarkStinks' message board where the Clark Howard tells you that you can anything you want without it being censored.
Today I was again looking at this board and found that my post was deleted on the Clark Stinks thread, that several additional posts I had made after my original post (which was changed) on the General Discussion board had been removed AND my screen name of '5th Army' was now banned from the board.
This 'moderator4' is a well known Calif leftist democratic flunky and as you can see this person (Carrie Muller) uses her position to change and delete posts she disagrees with and also she will 'ban' posters from the message board who disagree with her Democratic positions.
I have repeatedly faxed and emailed not only the WSB management but also COX Radio, I have not gotten ANY reply at all from anyone at the Howard Show, WSB Radio or Cox Communications.
I want to make a formal complaint to the FCC about this censorship of the message boards maintained by WSB & Cox and I would like you to refuse to renew the WSB's reapplication for their radio license when it is up for renewal. I would like my complaint to be kept on file at your agency so that others who are disgusted with this blatant censorship can see it.
Sincerely,
Paul

Murtha, a Vietnam Veteran, Voted for War
By LIZ SIDOTI, AP
WASHINGTON (Nov. 17) - An influential House Democrat who voted for the Iraq war called Thursday for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops, another sign of growing unease in Congress about the conflict.
"Our military is suffering, the future of our country is at risk," said Rep. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa.
"It is time for a change in direction," said Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., one of Congress' most hawkish Democrats. "Our military is suffering, the future of our country is at risk. We cannot continue on the present course. It is evident that continued military action in Iraq is not in the best interests of the United States of America, the Iraqi people or the Persian Gulf region."
House Republicans assailed Murtha's position as one of abandonment and surrender, and accused Democrats of playing politics with the war. "They want us to retreat. They want us to wave the white flag of surrender to the terrorists of the world," Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., said.
Murtha estimated that all U.S. troops could be pulled out within six months. A Vietnam veteran, he choked back tears during his remarks to reporters.

Thank you for your input.
The Clarkhoward.com message board has about 13 threads, the 'General Discussion' (see below) is for anything not covered by the other boards:
===============
"General Discussion
Use this forum to discuss any topic not addressed by our other boards."
================
A post of mine on Clark Stinks thread is partly reproduced below, I deleted repeating the article, this text was at the top of the post and it lasted I would guess about a day before it got deleted:
"Clark Howard's Message Boards
>> Clark stinks! Thread views: 1
Remember, you must register and/or log-in to post or reply to a message. Your responsibility
(Title)Clark - You have no business changing my post! Edit post | Reply to post
I posted the below item on your message site and the next day i found that my text had been changed by your people. The person who modified my post is a left wing democrat from Rocklin, Ca. and she has absolutely no business making any changes to my post.
This is using your site as a shill for the Democratic Party line and if my post is not restored to its original condition I will complain to the FCC and ask that your license NOT BE RENEWED.
The post is below and what I said was NOT:
Fax Rep John Murtha and tell him [what you think of his statements]:
I said:
Fax Rep John Murtha and tell him you think he is a traitor."
******************************
I was and am annoyed that my original post was changed by one of their 'moderators' with an obvious leftist Democratic slant. They should be there to take out bad words etc. and NOT change the threads to suit their own political beliefs. They can post their own rebuttal if they want but they should keep their noses out of other posters posts and I also object to my complaints to Howard on the Clark Stinks thread having been deleted.
So I complained to the FCC with copies by email to 4 people at Howard/WSB/Cox and with a hard copy of the letter to the Cox CEO.
If their radio station/group want to sponsor a left wing message board they should just say so and I and probably a lot of others will likely move on, but if they claim you can post on any other topic on Gen Dis and can b***h about any Howard topic on Clark Stinks then no moderator should be deleting or changing posts, and why should my screen name be banned with subsequent attempts to reregister similar screen names also resulting in them being immediately banned.
The thread I started had a good exchange of views until 8 posts were knocked off in one fell swoop and my screen name banned.
I have yet to get any replies to my emailed complaints and I doubt I will get any replies. So much for anyone at the radio station or Cox Communications caring what is going on with the message board or caring what posters there are complaining about.
You might have noticed other complaints both on this ripoffreport site and also on their threads also, particularly the Insurance thread.

You missed my point(s)

My point was a message board is subject to edit at any time by the moderators/owners. I was just citing RipoffReport as an example.
Secondly, I dont see from your post where you directed anything to Clark Howard (maybe you did, but I'll never know since your posts have been deleted). I see (from what you posted here) that you posted an article and wanted people to fax or call Rep Murtha with their opinions of his statements (not a bad idea). What does that have to do with Clark Howard?
Finally, the message board in question seems to be geared toward consumer issues not political issues. That could be the reason your posts were deleted, but I am not a moderator there so I don't know that for sure.

I believe you are incorrect in at least 2 issues.
1) The Howard show says as follows:
"Clark stinks!
The Clark Dart Board
O.K. Our callers are inclined to tell us on the air how much they enjoy the show and how Clark's advice has helped them out of a bind. But what about those people who hang up thinking, "What was he talking about?...Clark stinks!" Out of fairness to all, we want to hear from you too! Tell us why you think you deserve at shot at Clark's dart board.
Clark says you can bash him as much as you like, but he asks that you please be kind to each other!"
When I posted twice on Clark Stinks addressing my thread to Clark, these items were deleted despite his printed statements on the board and what he says 'on air'.
2) The names/addresses of Howard Show/Cox and phone numbers were not deleted on the thread. I have no idea if 'other' posts have such items deleted, only that mine survived intact.
3) I have no idea if the FCC has any 'authority' over message boards. I might be inclined to believe you when you say that if you weren't wrong twice in your post.
But thanks for your input.

The FCC does not regulate message boards even if they are run by a radio station. Also, a message board is NOT a free speech venue. The content on any message board is subject to approval and or change at any time by the owners or moderators. Have you ever noticed on RipReport that email addresses, phone #s, and competitors names are removed before a reply is posted?
