In June of this year, I posted a fence project on Thumbtack.com.  After getting multiple quotes, vacations, holidays, etc., I did not contract the job until early December 2017.  Sadly, I did not revisit his reviews/online information before I decided upon James Clay McGonagill dba CMC Construction (CMC Construction is likely a farce, I cannot verify that it even exists other than to the extent that Mr. McGonagill can sell you it does).

I signed an agreement and gave him the required 50% initial payment; more than $2,000.00.  The only thing that Mr. McGonagill has done that he contracted to do, or said he would do, is come and get our check and immediately cash it at the bank.  Period.  He has an excuse for everything and in my experience, none have proven truthful.  During the sales process, he claimed to have "crews" at his disposal.  Hurry and give him money so he can get material delivery scheduled.  He said he would begin work the Monday after contract signing.  Next, he promised to deliver materials and begin work on yet another set date.  When asked for a refund, he begged for another chance, which also came and went. 

The bottom line is that once he had the money, he refused to begin work or make a refund.  Now that I have pressed him in writing, he appears to be gone for good.  

Mr. McGonagill is known to post rebuttals to "bad" reviews posted about him.  As mentioned earlier, he has an excuse for everything and most often describes the client as unreasonable and worse.  If for any reason you doubt the truthfulness of Rip Off Reports filed here, just Google "James Clayton McGonagill" and “James Clay McGonagill Texas”.
