Cleveland Clinic They are overcharging me for a procedure bcs I have health insurance weston Florida

On July 18^{th, 2014} I had a procedure scheduled, a colonoscopy, and by that time I had AVMED insurance, with which I was supposed to pay $500 co pay.

The procedure did not go through entirely because I was poorly prepared, so we reschedule it for the following week, July 24^th.

 The 2nd procedure went through smoothly.

2 months later I get an invoice from Cleveland clinic for $1984.45, charging me for the 2 procedures.

I called the hospital and asked how much would be to get a colonoscopy done without insurance and Vicky, from the financing dept,  told me that the whole procedure (doctor, hospital, anesthesia) would be $1,800 and if I paid it upfront I would get a discount of 35%, which would come up to about $1,200.

 My insurance was billed in more than $11,000! After adjustments and payments, I was left with a bill for 2 procedures for almost $2,000!

 If I had elected to pay out pocket I would have paid for only one procedure and that would have cost me only $1,200!

How come with insurance coverage I still have to pay about the same amount?

It is clearly a scam between the insurance carriers and the hospitals.
