Cobra collection began harassing my mother for a bill that had been transfered from her doctors office. Cobra contacted my mother & she made payment arrangements directly with her doctors office & after that cobra collection sent a very threatening letter about filing a lawsuit against my mother.

She called to speak to the collector which began talking in a very abusive tone toward my mother & then blaming her & then the collector transfered the call to the mananger which he became very verbal abusive & accused my mother if she didn't stop yelling & screaming & being verbal abusive he would hang the phone up.

The manager hung the phone up on my mother saying she was being very verbal abusive which I was a witness to this phone call. They were the ones talking very abusive towards my mother & then accusing her for them to get out of trouble.

My mother complained to the attorney general where they told the same "LIE" that my mother was abusive toward them when they where the ones being abusive toward my mother & it was the last time my mother as heard from them my mother was out of a job that she told them & she couldn't pay but they didn't care about her problems all they wanted was money well if my mother didn't have any money then she couldn't pay.

If cobra had filed a lawsuit then she would have filed a harassment suit so fast they would not know what had hit them. From the federal trade commission if a collector violate any laws you have a right to sue for the damange you suffered. They cannot abuse you or harass you collectors break these laws all the time!

They do not care about peoples problems we are not bad people my mother as been out of work & got behind on her bills which everybody as this problem. But these collectors do not care about your work problems but they do not have the right to harass or abuse or bully you to get you to pay anything. "We the people" do not have to put up with this type of abuse! fight back! at these evil collection agencies!.

#12 Consumer Suggestion

Keep paying the doctor. NEVER talk to a collection agency on the phone.

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 16, 2006

If the doctor is accepting your payments, the collection agency has no right to collect ANY amount of money from you. First get a written agreement from the doctors office concerning the total amount due and the amount, frequency, and number of payments to be made. Again, if you remain in compliance with a payment agreement with the doctor, collection agencies can't do anything to you.

The doctor may or may not be allowed to add "collection fees" to the amount due. But realize that the amount due to a doctor is ALWAYS negotiable no matter what it is based on.

File complaints.

AUTHOR: Rachelle - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 16, 2006

Your mother needs to send a written complaint to the Dr.'s office with copies being sent to your state's AG, Cobra's AG, the BBB, the FTC and the ACA. Your mother's Dr. does not want this bad business associate with his/her practice.
The owner of Cobra posts on a certain collector's forum, and he is a real charmer. Nice professional website too......lol.
These guys/gals are nothing more than bullies. Do yourself a favor and immediately read up on the FDCPA. Consumers have rights against debt collectors and if the collector violates your rights they will have to pay you. You need to document all communications with them. If your state allows it tape record the calls. Start a journal and keep accurate records. I would also suggest doing any negotiating in writing.

My mother don't owe the collection fees

AUTHOR: charles - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 07, 2006

This is my mothers bill from the doctors office, my mother will not pay extra $500 along with the bill why should my mother have to deal with a crooked collection agencie this will come back & bite them eventually the doctors office started this mess my mom lost her job & is unable to pay she told them this prior them to placing this dept. The doctor's office owes the collection fees sense they are the ones that sold it i am not afraid of making a complaint on this website the doctors office are the ones trying to cheat the the collection out of paying their collection fees & they are harassing my mother for them. If collection agencies don't care about your finicial problems they have no feeling from people then you can sue them for harassment. They can keep harassing if they want a harassment suit filed against them because my mother cannot pay any money @ this moment but she will be glad to pay once she has the money but crooked collection agencies don't seem to understand this!. Crooked collection agencies do not care about your work problems or if you are out of work.

Charles, the doctor SOLD your debt.. You owe the doctor nothing.

AUTHOR: Marc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 06, 2006

He can't take money from your mother at this point. He could cash your mother's check of course, but I don't see how he could justify keeping the money. He owes the collection company any money that comes in for that bill. At this point the doctor's accountant just doesn't realize what's going on, but it will come back and bite you eventually.

Why should we have to pay their collection fees let the doctors office pay them sense they are the ones who sent it to collections in the first place

AUTHOR: charles - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 06, 2006

My mother will not pay their collection fees which is what turned this into a mess because my mother is refusing to talk to them which she has every right to & they accuse her of being verbal abusive toward them, the collection agencie is trying to cheat my mother out of more money then what the original made aggrangements with this is where the problem begins, they accept my mother to pay $500 extra their collection fees & my mother says she is not paying their fees which raised the bill higher why should we have to pay their collection fees, the doctor's office should pay those fees sense they are the ones who transfered it to them then they should be able to pay their fees not us.

The collector who was hateful & abusive toward my mother & lied about the aggrangements was fired for her actions for how she acted toward my mother, yeap collection agencies will play the blame game if you are out of work you don't have money to pay but collection agencies do not care about your personal problems, money doesn't grow on trees if you are not working you cannot pay but you are not a deadbeat & the collection agencies cannot go around telling people that you are a deadbeat this goes as slander & they will have to face serious consequences, they do not care about your work situation not everybody is deatbeats if you don't have the money to pay right away then you shouldn't be labeled a deatbeat sense if isn't your fault that you cannot pay sense you don't have the money but collection agencies do not care about your personal problems but they need to start to care sense because if you don't have the money you can't pay & they cannot sue you for money you don't have. You, can sue a collection agencies for violations for damanges you have suffered they cannot abuse you which this one did to my mother just complain to the attorney general for their abuse that will get them off their back, my mother is paying her doctor's office directly to them! she don't deal with collection agencies do to this problem because they are nothing but lying, thieves!.

#4 Consumer Suggestion

Sounds like this isn't over yet.

AUTHOR: Marc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, April 02, 2006

The doctor's office apparently sent your bad debt to collections, and now the doctor wants to cheat the collection agency out of money due them. Start recording and documenting all your phone calls and mail because this may turn into a blame game, with your mother in the middle. You are correct in saying that they don't care about your personal problems, and incorrect in saying that "everbody" doesn't pay their bills on time.

In fact, most people do pay what they owe to avoid being labeled a deadbeat and never even think about one of the "evil collection agencies" being put onto their trail.

Bottom line, pay the bill, get a receipt, and they will all go away.
