Well where do I begin with these companies. I have already read a few reports on Cobra but I still wanted to write a small one myself about these 2 offices in cardiff and southampton.
Lets start with the interview how they tell you everyone that works hard gets promoted to 'owner' aka managing director in 12-18 months. Here you will be on at least 50k a year...wow sounds promising almost too good to be true! (it is). They tell you they are no.1 direct selling company in the world fair enough even though no one has ever heard of them, and they ar no1 in the world (above police force/army etc) in training. You can't possibly lose here. You are told this office sells axa, talktalk, charities and does events... and today conveniantly we are going door2door for charity. So everyone splits into groups jumps in cars (some poor buggers have to get a train or bus, rubbish organisational skills there) and u set off to a 'territory'. Every1 puts on a tacky looking tabbard bib. Then you watch somebody knocking on about 20 doors if that, most of whom dont answer as its around 2pm and most people are working. You are told there is a written test you must get at least 95% on and out of around 4 people they will only choose the best 1 person. Funny enough you dont do that well on the test maybe got 85% lucky. But you still managed to get the job somehow oh brilliant, when you start a few days later the other people from your interview are there too, looks like we all got through unbelievable.
Ok now in reality when you are told 'today we will be representing charity' its because its all they do everyday. You dont need 95% on the test as they are so desperate to take on people everybody gets the job, even people that can barely speak english! Its a joke. If you manage to stay a few days (like me your that stupid) you will get 'dropped' 1 or 2 sales to make you think your doing good and its a bit freaky how everyone is constantly smiling and happy? If you are not smiling you will get a right bollocking, if you say 'oh no its raining' more than likely you will get sacked. This is known as 'negging out' (being negative) in reality its called BEING HUMAN! Lets face it who the hell wants to knock doors for 8 hours in the pouring rain and cold whilst 100 people tell you 'I give enough to charity'.
I have no idea why I stuck this sharade out, maybe because I thought it does happen and I will get promoted... Later to find out only 1 in every 1000 people make it. In my time there I must have seen at least 150 people come and go, lucky the offices motto is 'Who cares who's next'.
Also you will notice the higher up veteran sellers stay til late hours after 11pm, even though they were at the office at 9am! If u dont do this you will be spat on, put in hardest territories and dissed behind your back by the manager themselves (ogo and alyce). There is constant rumours about people and talking behind backs, once the newer leaders have left around 10pm let the dissing commence... The higher up people know loads of the gossip about other offices etc, and they never tell the people like me (the new leader) until I started staying later after 10pm and heard it all.
As for bonds...do they exist, maybe? I know even if your customer service is 100% spot on someone behind the scenes fakes cancellations from customers, keeps your bond money and gives you the form saying they cancelled for whatever reason. Bullshit. I had bonds of over 500 and received less than 50 for it. That was icing on the pisstake cake.
I could go on and on about my awful experience there but iv rambled too long anyway, as a leaving note... don't ever work for these 2 offices or anything cobra plc related. They also steal your bonds and savings (yes i knew all along admins). Dont sign up to anything on the door charity wise, do it on the internet...its safer.
Also see you in court you chuggers, from u no hu

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

not cut out for it

AUTHOR: Neghead - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Yes the direct sales/marketing indusrty is different than most jobs i've had in the past but, the skills you learn are second to none, my confidence grew so much and i wouldn't have been able to get my next job without the confidence i developed in myself. That stuff does happen on the interview, but isn't every company interview the same, talking about the growth and expansion and where it's going. You can work your way up to management if you want to aswell, as in my time of the company i saw two offices open, people who had to work hard and make alot of sacrafices, but don't expect something for nothing. As for the talking behind peoples backs, it happens in every job, it happens far less in oneway than it does in any job. one final thing to leave you with, if you type in mcdonalds, kfc, apple, microsoft massive organisations there is good press and bad press, bad press usually put on by ex employees, who feel they have been let down or betrayed but no matter how many people sue mcdonalds, it's still the biggest fast food chain in the world. Everything has two sides to the coin, some people fit with program some don't, thats life and people should deal with it. the oppurtuinity made me feel sad when i left as i knew i had a chance to really make something of myself, but all is good now, would just like to respond by posting positive feedback as it has helped me succeed

#2 UPDATE Employee

I have just started working here

AUTHOR: Crip210 - (United Kingdom)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 25, 2008

I've been working with the company for 5 days, I was initially quite disturbed to read this report as there are definite similiarities to my own experience so far.
My progress in the company has been:
Passed 1st and 2nd interview and test and have been accepted onto the 6 day trial. I have performed well and have been promised a promotion from "Field representative" to "Leader" on the condition that I pass stage level tests and reach certain sales targets.
Mornings can only be described as intense motivational exercises. Superiors are extremely friendly, bubbly people. I'm with a alright bunch of guys in my team, good bit of banter and its pretty fun going into work and hanging about with them. So far I have chosen when to go in (between 9 and 11) and noone has said anything yet. There is however definite "encouragement" for those who want to come in earlier. The "motivational exercises" (THEY DO NOT REFER TO IT AS THIS) go on separately between teams throughout the morning, culminating in an overall company meeting, where this weeks news, competitions, road trips, overseas trips and rallies are talked about. This has happened every day so far. The rising star award is mentioned each day, of which our "owner" has won. Theres a lot of clapping, cheering and general football style singing games and catchphrases. Its pretty fun for a job. I enjoy the competitive element as it holds my attention. I'm thinking about going on a road trip as there is the promise of making more sales and the overused catchphrase of "whatever happens on a road trip, stays on a road trip" makes it quite an attractive prospect with no shortage of fit girls working among us. Its about 2/3 girls, i'm a bloke by the way. All this cheering and clapping does get me up for it, I don't think anyones immune to the "positive energy" so I feel a little weird but I just go with it. We get into the "field" about 1.30 and work steadily until 8.30. For the first 3 days I am accompanied but i've been on my own since then, i've done well, chatted to some nice people, seen some strange things but in general people are nice. The constant conversation with strangers can be quite emotionally challenging. (Psychologically this makes me attached to the job). Its quite a strange experience.
When I first joined I noticed payday was Wednesday. Cash was promised until relevant banking could be set up, I am writing on thursday morning, I did not receive payment yesterday.
Some of things the above report says have at most been sensational.......so far.

I am currently writing a list of questions I will ask the "Owner" and I will post again with updates.

Bitter??

AUTHOR: Tequila - (United Kingdom)

POSTED: Sunday, June 15, 2008

I've also worked for the same oragnisation and was just wondering why your so bitter? Working for COBRA was hard work, but think of everything you learnt while you were there. I dont regret working there at all. Yes we were lied to about a lot of stuff but think back, honestly...how many people did YOU lie to?? Instead of looking back negatively about your time there why dont u move on with your life, so it wasnt for you.....who cares whats next?
