My wife received this notice and a check for $4,500 in the mail saying that she needed to cash a check for $4,500 to pay for the tax of the prize which comes to $3,500. The prize is a total of $250,000 from USA mega draw. At first we thought the check was real until I checked the internet and found variations of the story with the same claim number and winning numbers and same addresses in Canada.
The drawing was apparentely held on November 16th, 2007 and told me that my winning numbers were 22-24-38-41-47 and the claim number of SF-062-4726-RC
The notice said that I was to contact David Morgan at 011-27-78-488-8990 to start the claim process.
The letter also mentioned a tax agent Ann Smith, 325 Union Street, Sydney Nova Scotia Canada B4K 7C2 to whom I was supposed to send the $3,500 to. They wanted the tax money sent via money gram.
At the end of the letter the promotions manager, Irene Davis, was to have signed this notice but the signature looks nothing like the name of Irene Davis.
They mention that they have global offices in the USA, Hong Kong, Ecuador, South Africa, UK, and France.
The check that I am supposed to cash was printed by Metrocorp 1818 Market Street 36th Floor, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19103. Also the bank that the check is out of is Wachovia Bank NA (no address). The check does have water marks on the back that says 'DocuGard'.
I believe that this company is also know as Metrocorp Media a magazine publisher. The name and address is real.
The mail was sent from South Africa but does not have a return address.
I am going to take the check to the bank so they can do whatever is necessary.
I believe that Metrocorp is probably a legitimate company that might have had their checks ripped off. I have seen 5 other variations of this scam on this website.
