Being from Canada, I have limited time in the States and love to make the best of it.  That weekend, my entire family was down with grandchildren.  We had about twelve in our party.  So why not in South Florida get some great Cuban food right?

So, we dicided to look at reviews and Colada Cafe House in Fort Lauderdale was the place we picked.  We were all excited!  We got there and as soon as we openned the door, we got a sense of not being wanted. Not sure if it was the young kids, the party size, maybe Canandian, or whatever. It just seemed like "oh god here we go".  I noticed this feeling from the lady behind the counter and another guy that looked like the cook or back room person. They had their hat on backwords and t-shirt. We will talk more about that later!

We ordered many coladas, drinks for the kids, etc.  The coladas were undrinkable! Bitter and acidic! Almost sour! I know what coladas are like, full bodied, a littel bitter, but sweet! We decided to ask for a few new ones.  Dora was the manager I think and the attitude we got was shocking. Not a smile or an appoligy, just the dirty look and pulled the cups out of our hands and turned away.  She then cameback and put them on the table forcefully!  I was floored by this.

We did order anyway as maybe this was just a random thing. You know, we all have bad moments. We ordered sandwiches.  My breakfast sandwich was served in a hamburger bun, instead of the typical Cuban loaf bread. I thought they owned a bakery? My son's pollo sandwich with shredded chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and potato sticks cold and tastless.  For some reason that was served on cuban bread! Pretty much everyone's food had issues, so I thought I would talk to Dora about this.  

 As I started to walk up there, I noticed this person turn her back on me to show as if she was working. I waited quietly until she turned arround.  I smilled and said "hi, can I talk to a manager please?"  This person said "you are". I would getting a little angry now and said, listen, if you are going to be rude fine but not in front of my family. At that time I saw out of the corner of my eye this guy with his hat on backwards. He would not come over, but you knew he was listening.  I asked for the owner and was told that he was not there but leave my info and "he might call". I said ok, paid the bill and took my family out of there.  

I waited two weeks and got no response back from "the owner".  I decide to do some searches and found out that both Colada and Miramar Bakery are co-owned by a man named Ryan Cambell who is a lawyer.  Go figure right! So, doing more searches I found a few articles on Ryan Cambell and there was one that had a picture of him and some people at a table. And there was a person standing up over the table with his hat on backwards and in a t-shirt!  I could not believe it he was in Coladas at the time I had my un friendly conversation with Dora!    

I was able to find an email to Ryan a few weeks later (at this time we are around six weeks out). Found them through all these failed businesses, or at least the LLC's behind them.  Ryan finally replied and it was the most self centered, egotistical, conceeded response I have ever gotten from anyone in my life, yet alone a bussiness owner!  I was told "take it or leave it"!  Well, I am not going to take it Ryan, but I am not going to leave it untold.  Shame on you for being a business owner in this great country!
