Colonial Bank has a new funds availability policy that appears to depend on whether the branch manager likes you or not. It leaves the amount of time a deposit is held and not posted to your account to the discretion of the branch manager. And this branch manager is a real piece of work. It also is a great money maker for the bank. NSFs, interest they earn on the time between when the deposit is made and when the funds are finally available for use.
If you are on "HER S*** LIST" then your deposit (if drawn from another bank but in the same town less than 2 blocks away) can be held for up to 5 days without notice. If SHE likes you then your deposit is put in as a cash deposit and posts that night.
This Woman will also profile your account when cashing checks. I can have hundreds of dollars in the account and the teller will have to get her approval to cash my check.
I started out on her list when I approached her about not receiving checks or a check card for my new checking account that SHE opened. It took over 4 weeks to get my checks and I was limited by her on the number of counter checks that I could use. It was 6 weeks before I got a check card. I had to go over her head to get that cleared up. It turns out SHE never turned in the paperwork to get the card.
There were also customer perks that came with the account that I never received. When my boyfriend went by the bank to get them SHE was rude and told him SHE was doing him a favor by giving them to him and SHE was "trying" to be nice. I SHOULD HAVE LEFT COLONIAL BANK THEN. Hindsight is 20/20.
After the deal with the checks and the check card I got on HER list. Every time she got a chance to screw me up she did. I should have free checks with the account. Everytime I order checks I get charged and have to call to get the charge removed. I have even had this cause an overdraft which SHE would not remove the charge.
She revoked my check card without notice. The latest caper and last thing she will ever do to me came when she held my last deposit which was my paycheck drawn on a local bank. Paid on Friday - deposited before 2pm but not posted to my account until the following Tuesday. Automatic drafts set up for my utilities came through plus numerous checks I wrote and because of the "hold" on the deposit they were not honored.
By the time she got done with me I was overdrawn $550 due to bank fees when I should have around $600 in the account. I did not get any notice from the bank that this was happening until the following Saturday...4 additional days later.
A co-worker banks at this branch and is experiencing the same problem. Others I know who bank at this branch and other Colonial branches never receive this treatment.
So What Have I Done To Be Picked On? Why is Colonial Bank's funds availability policity written in such a way that allows an employee to use it against a customer?
WHY WON'T COLONIAL BANK STAND BEHIND THE CUSTOMER AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM. WHY IS THE CUSTOMER NEVER RIGHT ANYMORE?
So...BEWARE of Banker B*****s with Attitudes. They WILL make your life hell and send you to the poorhouse.

Holding Funds on Deposits
AUTHOR: Lady Rae - (U.S.A.)

The ability of a bank to hold funds on a deposit made in any form other than cash is federally regulated. It also requires the teller to advise you at the time of the deposit that a hold is placed on the deposit and when and how much of the funds will be made available. In other words, if I deposit a $5,000 check they can tell me at the time the deposit is made that as of midnight $1,000 is available but the remaining $4,000 will not be available until a date specific. Failing to give you such notice, all deposited funds must be made available at midnight on the day deposited if they are done by 3:00 p.m. I think the longest hold a bank can put on any funds under any circumstances though is 10 business days.
If funds are being held and you are not given written notice what is held and for how long, report them to the federal banking regulatory agency.

Sit down and write a cool, calm and collected letter to the president of the bank, explaining to him what has been happeneing. Don't name-call, or try to insult anyone, just tell him your perspective, and that you cannot understand the inconsistency in customer service at his bank. You'll get some results.
