We joined the Colorado Athletic Club in April, 2010, when my wife was 5 months pregnant with our second child. Their pre-natal workouts were said to be first rate, so we gave it a shot.  When signing on, they were planning to build a pool, and promised to have it finished by late May.   (The pool construction had not broken ground at the time of our initial visit.)

The pool is a big part of our summer activities, and our 2yr old is a little fish.   She much enjoys the pool at Rallysport, the gym we belonged to before, during, and after trying Colorado Athletic Club.

To be sure we didn't lock ourselves into a long term contract, especially while the pool was not a reality, we signed a 3-month agreement, paying a premium over the rates paid on a 6 or 12 month agreement.

We were absolutely clear that we need the pool for our membership to continue, and it was communicated repeatedly.

When the pool was not complete by end of June, my wife went to the gym to cancel our membership.  At that point, she was 8 months pregnant.  With our 2yr old daughter in tow, my wife was presented a, 'leave of absence' agreement, instead of the requested cancellation agreement.  She had no intention of returning to CAC, and never would have knowingly signed anything but a cancellation agreement.

When we got a bill in the mail some months later, after our credit card had been charged once, then expired, we questioned the charge.   My wife made a phone call to the club, and inquired about the amount due, and that she had signed a cancellation agreement.

The agent instead wrote in the computer, notes that she wanted a second leave of absence!    When I heard this, I became frustrated, and went to the gym to find a resolution.  I was made to wait 30 minutes to speak with a sales agent, and a manager was unavailable.  Perfect.

We signed a cancellation agreement on the spot, and were informed that we would n ow owe for three months, as we did not give a 30-day notice before the 1st of November.  Now, we would also have to pay for December.  I laughed, and urged them to please try to bill us for additional months.

Our contract was for 3 months, and when the pool didn't open in June, July, August, in fact, not until last week, the fact that they were looking to rope us drove me to this website.

We have friends from our daughters pre-school that had similar experiences with the Colorado Athletic Club.  I'm going to suggest the pop in a review here as well.

No wonder their memberships continue to drop!  I'm confident there will be more reviews here, calling out the CAC on their shady operations, and lack of integrity.
